Berlingo won't start
Hi, new to forum
I have a 2009 Berlingo! It won't start from key but runs fine when bump start.
Tried jumping with leads still no joy.
First thought was starter motor BUT where they is it!
I have a 407 that I changed starter on within 1 hour, can I help as like find the Berlingo one.
Then been thinking today it could be ignition! Is there anyway of test or shorting it out to start it or at least eliminate it.
Any response gratefully accepted

Re: Berlingo won't start
If able to bump start, there isn't much wrong with fuel/injection etc.
How old is the battery?
Does either main battery connector get warm/hot when you try to crank? (poor connection/contact)
What happens if you clip on to those connectors and try to jump-start?

Hi, and to the Forum. Might I suggest that you post up the VIN of the Berlingo, so that the Moderators can look up the precise details of the vehicle (and they can also dig out any relevant diagrams). Don't worry about the security of your VIN; the forum software will obscure it so only you and the Moderators can read it.
If the starter motor is weak (and the car has an HDi engine) it will not start if it fails to get to 800RPM (even if everything else is in good order), as this is when the injectors will receive fuel.

Re: Berlingo won't start
Does the engine turn over when the key is in the start position?? as said above 800 rpm needed for the hdi high pressure fuel pump. Petrol or diesel, but you do say ign so petrol??
We know the feeling as we have a dead picasso
Can you hear the lift pump in the tank when the ign is on?? do you have a code reader??
Earths and main battery leads and connections, earths!!!!!
A parts diagram for the exploded views will show you where the starter is, or follow the main 12v lead from the battery to the starter motor, the heavy thick lead.

800 rpm ?? Dont think ive ever seen a starter on any car that could turn an engine anywhere near that speed. Most engines crank over at around 300-350 rpm.

Re: Berlingo won't start
300 rpm then if its a hdi.....the diesel pump has to create one hell of a pressure for the system to work??

Re: Berlingo won't start
Hello,
I have exactly the same problem with my berlingo.
Bump start works every time. Jump lead start no joy.
New battery and alternator. No problem with power.
May it be the faulty key?
I can only hear a click noise when turning the key and nothing happens. After bump start it usually works for a while until again the problem occurs.
Please help.

Re: Berlingo won't start
If the key was faulty it wouldn’t start with a bump start either and it wouldnt stop the starter operating.
What engine do you have?

1.6 petrol. 2005.
Since the bump start it is now working OK again

Re: Berlingo won't start
Sounds to me like you have a dodgy starter motor that's on its way out, It most likely will do it again in the very near future.

Thank you for the reply.
Will look into it and will replace it sometime soon if I can get my hands on a budget option

Re: Berlingo won't start
You would need to see if they do the right one for your car, but I have (in the past) used a reconditioned starter motor from GSF. For my first C5 it cost about £120, but as I then returned the old motor in the packaging provided I got back about £60 (obviously the refurbishment company (in this case, Bosch) need a supply or motors to refurbish).
