Xantia clutch release bearing

Post by conbhaill »

Has anyone any tips available for keeping the release bearing up the right way to link into the release forks as the trfansmission is set back in place?
Haynes claims the fork can be disengaged whilst the transmission is still in situ, does it follow that the forks can be re-engaged under the same circumstances?

Is this the pull type as on a 1.9TD or 2.0l petrol, if so its not too difficult to get the box back on without disturbing the bearing, providing you are lifting it by mechanical means, if you are trying to manhandle it into place then you will have a hard time lining it up.
I just position the bearing and fork and it goes together no trouble, not had to have two attempts at one yet, if you stick the lever on you can tell if its properly engaged before screwing any bolts in.

Retain the lever arm with a piece of wire - once engaged with bearing.

Many thanks both, I managed it by making two rods to retain the transmission and sliding said transmission outwards about four inches before setting back in place, no hoist !
