Well, that was something unusual to see early morning on the outskirts of Henley (on the road to Marlow). I saw a couple of gentlemen in Edwardian garb riding a Penny Farthing each! There was nowhere I could pull over safely, otherwise I would have taken a couple of photographs.

Not your Citrojim type of cycling event, but each year this event known as the Tweed Run takes place in London with similarly dressed up participants. This year it takes place on Saturday 27th April. Maybe the pair you saw were in training for it.

I'd like to try to ride one just once. For the experience of doing so... Likewise a tandem and a recumbent...

For now I'll stick with my modern racing bikes. Speaking of which, we have our first TT race of the season next week :)

Photographed on the outskirts of Henley on Thames. The gentleman told me that a group will be heading to Paris in June, to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Research.

And after 50'ish miles of test riding, a little nervously, on the repaired tyre, I finally lost my nerve and tubed it ;)

The repair actually looked like it would last a lot longer than I thought. The plug, when mixed with sealant, seems to go quite firm and stays well put. It took some effort to pull it out.

So, definitely good for a 'get you home' fix however far away you are from home but I still don't think it's for the long-term or until the tyre reaches the end of its natural life.

I now carry a little pocket-sized plugging kit and a small bottle of sealant on my rides.

I decided to incorparate a 'virtual' LEJOG in my bike training, it took me 25 days with the bonus of only 1 puncture, no hassle with navigation, cheap food, hot baths and a comfortable bed each night with a good washing/drying facility, the only other maintenance was tightning up my handlebar clamp (came loose twice) and tyre pressures during the whole 28 days - I estimate that I've saved £5,000 if I'd gone and done an organised tour :eek1:

Strava free trial ended but the above should show my last 28 days = 1,002.5 miles including 49,531 feet of elevation.

I know it's not the real thing ....my eldest brother is possibly doing a cheaper camping version so that may be an option at a later date ....

Take a trip on the Train to Berwick-upon-Tweed with your bike, get out at the station and follow NCN68 and you will pass by this fingerpost direction sign. Keep on for another 350 miles and you will end up in Derby and you will have completed the Pennine Cycleway.

Or, if you don't have a long weekend to spare, you could follow this link and see how Neil, Bob and I got on when we completed the reverse trip on our virtual bikes while being locked down by COVID in 2020: :-D
