Still Looking for an XM - VIN help please

Unread post by Saraphee »

I'm afraid the last one got away.
When It came down to negotiating the current owner decided that he needed to add the equivalent of £10K to the price to recover what he'd spent on it!
There is no point in attempting to reach an acceptable level against such a mindset so it is time to move on.

Not many XM's in the Thai market at present, this claims to be a 1996 16 valve 2.0i, would someone be kind enough to check what the VIN man says?
VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]

I've only seen a couple of low resolution pics as yet as the car is not local (about 700 clicks away) so thought I'd try and find out a little more before asking for more details or jumping on a plane.
Thanks in eager anticipation :-D

Thanks Chris,

All very interesting.
Got some pics yesterday. The car now has a 2.0i 16v fitted, a full leather interior and a sun roof.
I'll be sending a contact to assess it some time - maybe later next week. Have a look at the pics.

The 16V engine would seem to be original specification for that car.

Generally it would seem to be very similar to Australia VSX specifications.

I see there's an XM in one of the auctions Neil (Newcastle Falcon) has posted about. Too far from the op I fear.

Not only is that too far- anything between 200/300% duty on Customs denominated value + shipping costs to pay on arrival IF you have prior permission from the Land Transport Dept & Customs to import.
It's why classics are so rare here!
The 'Blue" (log) book shows an engine change about 7 years ago. Wasn't sure what the original engine was - most imports here were the same 2 litre 8 valve as were the Xantia, with a few V6's and Turbo C.T. even rarer. After about 1997/8 most imports were the 16 valve job, although these late date cars were this on the ground new.
