Post by renagade »

Hi Guys
just looking at a 2011 2litre c4 picasso auto with 23,000miles full service history. What type of auto gearbox does the 2 litre have

I'll need the Reg if you don't have the VIN as there are both the 6 Speed Auto (AM6) and the dreaded Mickey Mouse 6 Speed Piloted Manual as well as the AL4 4 Speed, so if you have pictures that you can see, check the Gearbox selector - it there is no 'P' for Park then it is the piloted manual version - if it has 'P' it will be an Automatic.

But it really depends on the model, engine and year as to what it is supplied with.

Ok, got that - I've replaced the reg with the VIN. Get your running shoes on - it's a Piloted jobbie.

Really, that bad [-X

My latest C4 Picasso has the auto box but prior to that from 2007 to 2017 all my cars had the egs box (of whatever they called it) and I never had any problems with reliability. Yes, the first generation could be wrong footed but later versions are just like driving an auto.
I can’t see a problem with a low mileage fully serviced example.

Plenty of examples of costly maintenance on these - especially when the clutch needs replacing, leaking hydraulic tanks, faulty actuators, ECU issues, £1000s in some cases spent to repair. You may have been lucky in the years of ownership between each.

The labour rates (dealer admittedly) for replacing the clutch kit on a 6 speed piloted manual for a C4 Picasso 1.6 is 10.2 hours - plus parts of course and that doesn't include the DMF.... So great if you get the use out of it before the clutch and DMF need doing and sell it on - but the next guy gets generally clobbered.

Obviously that's just a clutch change - but when they go wrong it can cost a lot in diagnosis.
