Rear Parking Sensors

Good Morning All,

It would appear my rear sensors are dying, warning on dash Rear Parking system failure.

It first occurred about 2 weeks ago, but I thought it was due to car being extremely dirty and sensors covered by muck.

Clean car and sensors started working but cleaned car yesterday but warning still showing.

I'm not too bother about having them working.

Check to see if you have spilled or had anything leaking down into the boot area. I had a 5lt halfrauds screenwash that I carries in the boot leak. All the fluid ran down under the carpet and onto the parking assistance ECU that is mounted to the right of the spare wheel. It took me a week of careful cleaning and drying to get all the dye off and to get it working again.

Failing that it maybe one sensor that is out. It only takes one and the whole system is deactivated for obvious reasons.

Diagbox will tell you exactly which one is out Kenny so you can replace the faulty one.

All the fluid ran down under the carpet and onto the parking assistance ECU that is mounted to the right of the spare wheel.

Just for clarification not all C5 (X&) parking ECU's are in the spare wheel well, so if you can't see it don't worry, mine is actually above the left-hand wheel arch along with the towing & one other.

But.......as marc has said a number of times on here, put your car in reverse and lightly touch the sensors one by one they should vibrate or apparently they can be heard to vibrate if you have good hearing and your ear very close to them!!

Yes indeed, I think that some Tourers have them on the left Stu, and yes, thanks for reminding me of my own advice

If you leave ignition on and put it in reverse a very light touch on or near the sensor will determine if it is active or not from the faint pulse it makes - useful for those without Diagbox.

Well got diagbox on to the x7 and clear faults.

Updated DPF additive counter and checked on rear parking sensors, fault sensor is exterior left rear which I take to be the outside sensor, fault recorded as open +ve.


Will get around to changing same in better weather.

I'm a fan of fitting genuine parts but when I had troubles with one of mine I fitted a ten quid ching-chong example from Ebay and it's still there and working fine over two years later.
Piece of cake to fit too.
