I have it in my mind that the DW8 engine is kind of an XUD9 block mated to a modified TUD5 (the 1.5L engine in the 106/Saxo) head, but when I try and find where I read this, I can't find anything to confirm it.
Does anyone know if this is (or isn't) true?
The DW8 engine - XUD block + TUD head?

My guess is that it isn't true. Compare the cyl. head gaskets of the two engines and they are nothing like each other. Bolt holes are not in the same pattern, neither are the holes around the water conduits.

It's basically an XUD but i read it had various DW10 elements as well?

No it's not. I've had heads off both and the gaskets, oil ways and water channels are nothing like each other.
