What issues should I look out for with a Peugeot 207 sw?

Unread post by fotobright »

Hi

Looking at replacing my trusty Citroen C5 2.2L with a 2009 Peugeot 207 sw. The road tax wll certaily be a lot less and mpg much better although the ride will not be that of the Citroen.

What should I be looking out for at the veiwing?

Pretty much what you would look for in any new car. Service history, especially when was the cambelt last changed. Is the vehicle handbook present. If not, the cheapest one on ebay at the moment is £12.50. Check for uneven tyre wear and the same make and type of tyre on each axle (and preferably all round). General condition; does it look cared for? condition of interior; check all the lights work. On my 2012 207SW the brakes work extremely well, embarrassingly so at times. Being the 1.6HDI, there's little power below about 1500 revs but above that it should pull like a train and it doesn't take too long to get to the point where you might see flashing blue lights behind you. The last thing is subjective, does it feel right. If it doesn't, walk away; there are enough other 207s out there.

Check that the heater/blower works in all configurations too.

We have a 58 207 1.6 16v hdi 90.

Superb. Great car. Love it. Its the wife's and a hdi 90. Road tax 30 a year. Mpg 60 plug is kept under 65 mph.. Easy to add cruise control. Ours has single zone manual air con. Been zero issues with the heater.. Air con is fine. Needs a top up. We're on 155k now and original clutch which is starting to come to the end of its life. Front springs fracture but most new cars do now anyway.. Drop links.. The usual stuff. They are not torsion bar suspension so do not suffer wear of 206 or older cars.. I think they are great.

1. 6 hdi 90 doesn't have dpf on them so are simpler. Usual 1. 6 hdi 16 checks. Check for injector seal leaks. Useually a chuffing sound when running. I also beleve the plugs to the bsm fuse box should be unplugged and checked for corrosion as water gets into them. It's under a cover on passenger side. Should start instantly. Hdi or petrol..

So far I've only put a nearside spring and brakes on ours. Most if not all sw also have panaramic roof blind too

Look for regular servicing, specifically oil changes. The 16v 1.6HDi engines have a reputation for being prone to lunching themselves if this is not done.

It's not the oil changes them self's that do this.. Its the ignorant issue of ignoring an injector seal leaking letting burnt soot up the injector and past the brittle oil seals on the top of the injectors between the rocker cover and injector tubes.
injector clamp bolts slacken off from vibration and injectors lift but sometimes the injector tube lifts slightly letting soot into the oil and hey presto. Starved turbo..
The reason the injector clamp bolts undo... The top clamp bolt is a 7mm Allen bolt thread.. The lower is machined down to stupid 6 or even 5 mm.. Which doesn't allow a tight enough fasten.
anyway..
There is a simple way to avoid this. At each service with a 7mm Allen key just go round the Injector clamp nuts and check and nip them up.
our 207 at 155k is on original turbo and no seal issues as I check them at each service.

I think he’s possibly referring to the DV6TED4 turbo failure issues from oil starvation, well documented and detailed here:

I am too. Useually caused simply be the injector clamp bolts loosening off the causing injector blow past.
volvo use this same dv6 engine they are advised at service to check injector clamp bolts. How many fails do you see... Virtually none of any.
Ford and psa do not advise it.. How many do we see... Ooodles of them.
