X7 Steering Wheel button repairs?

Unread post by Sloppysod »

Hi All,
Looking for a bit of inventive advice, and making the other X7 owners.
The pause button has developed a small pin hole, see photos at the top of the pause symbol and I have two questions.
  • Any suggestions on a robust repair, first thought was a cycle repair patch on the inside, but this stop the LED from illuminating the symbol
  • Can I fit the buttons from a B7 - as these are hard plastic
  • Anyone seen just the rubber parts from sale/

According to the online OEM parts the item, I need is RP 6242 ZL (LEATHER STEER WHEEL 4 BRANCHS SINCE RPO 11767) but I search for this number and I get the indicator stalks and not the buttons on the hub :!:
Even though it is annoying seeing a bright pin hole I will be leaving it until the warmer weather returns.
Cheers in advance

Hi Stu

That's not the right part number for your car. You need 6242RG (now superseded by part: 98030642ZD (£379.41)) VMF Integral Switch Module.

I have seen these used from £90 - but do search on the exact part number as like the comms units, these are specific to the vehicle and although similar, must be the right part to work.

The C4 ones are completely different unfortunately.
Please note, I'm no longer active on the Forum, so won't respond to messages.

Cheers marc, I thought it may have been the wrong part number, but for £379.41 it just "ain't going to happen" soon, unless the hole get a lot bigger .... quickly, I can live with the orange dot for now.

Shame about the C4 being different, as they use hard plastic buttons, obviously Citroen realised a design floor and changed it for the B7.

silicone will not stick to that type of plastic. You will need a Polyurethane type of adhesive such as Tiger Seal

Steve, Alasdair - Thanks for the suggestion but yes on one point a Polyurethane type of adhesive, but the problem is that I am not sure how for the LED is below the rubber, so I think it will be a dismantle job and repair from the inside.

If you can get behind it maybe a clear tape would be better to allow the LED to shine then just a little (use a pin) bit used in just the hole ?

Alasdair, that is my thought, I will try to take it apart next year. Not sure if it is and LED or the end of a fibre optic yet.
I will let you know how I get on, when I feel like doing the job.
Cheers

Overfill the hole and use a razor blade to cut it flush after it has dried ?

Thought it was an easy plastic cover replacing job - guess I will stop using the buttons now or cover them with cling film!

Or stick cabinet door bumper pads over them?
