Citroen C4 VTS - Rev counter problem

Unread post by lancia58 »

Hi

The rev counter in my 2006 C4 VTS sometime works occasionally. When I starting the car it will not work and as the time goes it starts/stops working till is works permanently . Then on the next morning this phenomenon happens again. Can this be fix or a new rev counter module should be obtained

Thanks
Zohar

You can run the following actuator tests on the tachometer using Lexia Zohar.
ActuatorTest carried out
Rev counter indicatorThe rev counter indicator should light progressively until all of the segments are lit
Screen displaySwitch off all of the segments for 5 seconds, then display all of the segments for 5 seconds
Automatic gearbox position indicatorThe liquid crystal display should display the following sequence : P, R, N, D, D6, D5, D4, D3, D2, D1, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, "--", auto, S, snow
Lighting of the liquid crystal displayThe level of brightness of the liquid crystal display should vary from minimum to maximum, then from maximum to minimum
"night driving" modeActivate the "night driving" mode for 5 seconds
There should be a fault code if there is a fault, but the above will indicate whether the actual tachometer is working correctly and the ECU. If the tests are working correctly, then it may be related to something like an engine speed sensor for example.

When it does not work none of the LCD segments is seen and on top of it the background light of the rev counter turns off. The background light should be always on regardless the light switch

So have you performed any of the tests mentioned above? This will check the functionality. Do you have any fault codes registered under a Global Test? If a temporary fault, it may not register, as it could self-clear, unless you check the log to see if has been appearing and clearing.

Yes, the rev counter electronics was defective. I bought used one out of ebay and this sorted it.
