C4 VTS - Volume bar and title not outlined correctly

Unread post by lancia58 »

The car make year is 2006 and the head unit make year is 2008, I detached the head unit and it have a label on it that is was made in 2008. I guess the previous owner changed it since he wanted an MP3 option. Browsing the service history indicates that the 2008 head unit was configured at 2010. The problem is that the volume bars are not displayed as they should ( red arrow ) so is the volume title ( green arrow ) and the speaker icon ( blue arrow ). I hooked a Lexia browsed the Radio configuration, BSI configuration , Multifunction screen configuration and did not find any related configuration. In the following image the bottom multi function screen is displaying the correct image , it is from my 2009 C4 with THP engine.
Any one knows what should be configures so it will be displayed correctly .

Thanks

Several things come to mind:

1) The Multifunction Screen 'C' has a personalisation menu, where brightness and intensity of the display can be set and changed - check there first.
2) More likely this new screen was lifted from a different model not designed for the C4. As you probably know the display lighting of the instrument panel is set based on the ambient light coming in from the windscreen and the lighting is adjusted according to the brightness. So it may simply mean an incompatible screen has been fitted with the wrong firmware / software versions.
3) The configuration parameters are incorrect / or a setting in the MFD / Head Unit or BSI is incorrect for the vehicle.

One more thing - there is a configuration option that you can check with Lexia - on the MFD configuration, there is a setting called 'Type of Display' This can be set to one of 2 options:
Normal Mode
Inverse Mode

Just select the other one to what is currently set and see if that resolves it.

Where did you go? Which ECU, which menu? More information would help...

In the language menu on the screen, how many languages do you have?

That's good then, just a thought it may have been a Chinese copy, but they show fewer languages, including Chinese.

The type of display Normal / inverse is not done in Diagbox - that is done in the Display settings for the Head Unit - it will be where you select the languages, temperature units, Date Format, Miles / KMs - and then there is a setting 'Type of Display' - select that and choose 'Inverse' or 'Normal'.

Hi

Changing type of display Normal/Inverse does not solve it

My screen is from a 2009 c4 in a 2005 407 and is normal. In diag it doesn't recognise the mfd ecu but it works fine and I can alter the set ups like AC. Does your's know the the ecu name for the mfd? Mine has the original head unit though.
It may be worth transferring it to the Cit forum (Marc) to see if anyone recognises the display differences, the post is a little hidden here? Or start a new thread asking that. I'd wait for Marc's advise first though, don't want a double thread.

I’ll leave it here in the telematics section Pete, as all these topics are moved here now.

As for the issue, it may well be down to the hardware and software compatibility. Different years had different revisions, so if the option is not there to change it, then the later screen is probably not fully compatible with the older architecture.

The only thing I know for sure is that the stereo head unit has been replaced with one that includes MP3. Looking at the car service history I found that in 2008 the new head unit was configured at an authorized dealer garage.

Ok so the head unit may have been changed, but there needs to be a compatible ‘C’ type MFD screen too. Was that changed to be compatible with the newer head unit I wonder.
