Blow/suck out 206 dipstick?
Hi All,
about 45mm broke off the end of my dipstick, about 5mm above the MAX mark so I can't just 'fill to MAX'.
I know it's still in the tube because the new one won't go in completely. I was thinking of draining the engine oil and blowing air from a vacum cleaner through the sump plug hole in the hope that the plastic tip might fly out. Could also use the cleaner to suck at the top of the dipstick tube too.
1) Is this a STUPID idea? Could this damage parts like the oil pump?
2) Maybe a rubber tube down the dipstick tube could hold it by suction while it's drawn out?
3) Otherwise I guess it's off with the sump (and exhaust manifold? ).
Thanks - Alex.

Will the tube unscrew/pull out so you can retrieve the tip?

Re: Blow/suck out 206 dipstick?
I would leave it, the plastic tip will get caught by the filter gauze. There were similar issues with certain designs on the C5 where the bottom flexible part of the dipstick came off. After a while Citroen stopped fishing them out from the oil sump because of the number of failures on these. The gauze should stop it from being sucked up into the engine.

If I use the remenants of the dipstick I can only read oil at 5mm+ above maximum.
There is a dashboard oil level indicator but I'm not sure how reliable that is.

What’s the VIN of the 206, I’ll have a look at the dipstick tube.

Re: Blow/suck out 206 dipstick?
Well - I have answered my first question - IT WAS STUPID!!!
I used a vacuum to try and lift out the plastic dipt stick end. 'Something' came up the dipstick tube but got stuck half way. Tried to push it back down but the 'something' stops the dipstick going in by another 90mm (already missing 45mm), about 135mm total.
Does anyone know if the dipstick tube is removeable?
Any other ideas?
Thanks - Alex.

Re: Blow/suck out 206 dipstick?
Sorry about the delay - had a few things to sort out.
Here's the parts diagram - it shows the dipstick (11) and the oil gauge guide (9). Item (15) is the oil level probe that provides the electronic measurement for the dashboard.
As far as the oil goes, your 206 which has the TU3JP engine is one of those that can be drained through suction. The oil tube guide widens at the sump end to allow the connection of the suction draining equipment. There are various diameters, but yours is 14mm, so needs this adaptor. I'm guessing that the part that is broken off will be almost impossible to be sucked up the tube if it is already stuck where it is.
However, looking at the diagram, there doesn't seem to be a separate part for anything to snap off of the dipstick - so I'm wondering if this has been a replacement dipstick?
I'd let the garage see if they can fish it out, but if it does go back down it should be trapped by the oil gauze trap. Obviously you need to be able to get the part free from blocking the tube or you won't be able to get another dipstick in there.

Re: Blow/suck out 206 dipstick?
Whatever is stuck in the diptstick tube is stuck tight. Tried with engin hot incase that helped. Tried pushing it through with a wire coathanger but its stuck.
The replacement dipstick tube is £20 so I thought I might as well swap it myself if DIYable. The top fixing is a bolt, not sure about the bottom. Does it just pull out/push in? Possibley have to remove manifold too? I wonder if the tube oil seal is part of the tube or seperate - Peuguot parts wern't clear about this. Nothing in my Haynes manual either.
Thanks for the diagram Marc - Alex.

I can’t see any reference to screws or other fixings, so have to assume it just slides in Alex. If there were a fixing of some sort, it should show up on parts.
The tube guide is part 1171H1 and priced at £22.08 inc. VAT

The tube is just an interference fit once you've taken the bolt at the top out just gently twist it out.
I've got a new dipstick tube sitting on my shelf here but can't say what it fits other than it's Citroen
