Replacing inlet manifold gaskets (406 1.8 16V), need help!

Unread post by LFY »

Hi everyone,

I'm about to replace inlet manifold gaskets of my Peugeot 406 1.8 16V (XU7JP4 LFY) petrol engine.

Image

Do I need to apply grease on new gaskets before installation? Some say it is necessary, some say the opposite! I'm confused!

I didn't find the tightening sequence of intake manifold bolts. Does anyone have the pattern?
Is the tightening torque 20 nm?

Thanks for your help.

I personally don't put anything on the seals (they are the rubber O ring type?) & never had any issues. Don't see the need as they are mating to a flat surface & not pushing over anything.
Yes the torque is 20 Nm.
As for tightening, I would do it like a cylinder head, tighten by hand then final tightening starting from the middle & spiralling outward.

They are of this type:

Should I follow this pattern for tightening intake manifold bolts? (this is for cylinder head)

That's exactly the pattern that Wheeler told you he uses.

ImageWhen I was removing the manifold this thing fell into the intake port.
I tried to remove it but it fell further into the port.
I think it is a little piece of leaf or something.

I am very afraid now. I don't want it to be sucked into the cylinder and ruin the piston rings.
What should I do now? :(
Is there anyway to pull it out without removing the cylinder head?

Vacuum cleaner with smaller (? 20mm) extension hose taped on to get right into the port.
