ZX: dump valve

Post by ZXturbo_Aura »

does anyone know what type of dump valve would be needed for a TD?ive seen pictures and videos of dump valves on ZX's and 306's on the net, they look and sound great, but they go on about an electric controller or something??

There's no point fitting a dump valve to a diesel as there is no inlet manifold throttle to stall the compressor side of the turbo (which is what a dump valve is there to prevent). Spend the money on a pair of LED washer jets instead, it will make as much difference to the performance [:D]

Joking aside, Allard have just launched a dump valve for the 1.7/1.9TD!

thanks jon for that, its a lot cheaper than pug performance! althouh... i dont know if you know but... is that electronic contol unit for the throttle etc really requireD? i was thinkin of just placing the dump valve on the left hand side of I/C, T'd into its plumbing?

Yes, I reckon you're right Dan, you're not going to need that control unit.
Probably the best plan is to give Allard a bell.

Sorry for being thick and all but what does the dump valve do. Has it got any purpose?

In a petrol engine it prevents the turbo being stalled when the throttle is shut or backed right off (during gear changes etc). In a Turbo diesel it does nothing other than make a whoosh noise iirc. If it does have some performance benefit in a TD I may get one myself as I do like the sound of them (although it may get weary of it after a while) but I can't bear the thought of doing something to the car for no real benefit-like adding a spoiler for 'downforce' pointless.
