Diesel injector test
Can anyone tell me what would would constitute total failure? I have been told this is what is causing the smoke and smell with my van,, by the diesel specialist who did the work, however I showed the report to a friend who used to operate a haulage company, so knows about diesels, and he read it and said the figures of the tests are all equal, and can't understand why they would be classed as failed.

Bit more info needed
Re: Diesel injector test
I had a leaking seal on my van, and took it to local diesel specialist who removed, cleaned and replaced the injectors, with new seals and copper washers. Prior to this you could hear the injector "chuffing" on tickover. My local garage diagnosed a leaking injector, but suggested to get it done at diesel specialist in case any were seized. On cold start I was getting white smoke, which would disappear after a few good revs, only on cold start though, not in normal driving.
There was also this smell of a cross between diesel fumes and exhaust fumes, which I have read is down to the leaking injector. After re seal,tHe company said, if I had any further trouble in the next few days, to get back to them.
Well still smoking, still smelling a week later, rang them and they said, fetch it back and we will test the injectors..
I left van with them and they phoned later that afternoon to say all 4 had "failed" and needed replacing ,at a cost of £120 each plus vat
I have a copy of the machine test result, but it means nothing to mesa friend who is savvy with diesels looked at to and said, the readings on all tests showed equal figures, none were much higher or lower than any of the others, and said he couldn't see why they were classed as total failures.
So before I go down the new injector route, can someone in the know please explain to me simply ?? Is this enough info??

Re: Diesel injector test
Very common for injectors to leak past the cooper washers on these engines. Very crucial to clean the seating area for new seal and to fit the correct size washer. Unlikely to be injectors at fault.
Re: Diesel injector test
All that been done before the tests, new seals and copper washers

Were the seats cleaned up with a slight (very slight) cutting? Without this new washers won't seat properly.

Re: Diesel injector test
Well considering this company are supposedly the best at their game in the north east,,I would imagine all this has been done. They do a lot of work for a local agricultural dealer, and bus companies, and were recommended to me by a friend, who has helped me immensely when I was running the Rover.
He has used them a lot before, and he only gives out work that is specialised, everything else he does himself.

Re: Diesel injector test
Would suggest second opinion. Have done a few of these never been a problem After new seals fitted. If all injectors were faulty vehicle wouldn’t start .
Re: Diesel injector test
Been talking to a mate who is mechanically minded, he suggests finding out the correct fuel pressure,as it could be f o regulator valve causing over fuelling, or f p sensor, anyone know what the correct pressures are meant to be.

Re: Diesel injector test
Not sure but there is a fuel rail pressure sensor which would throw up a engine light if pressure was wrong. And it wouldn’t start.
Re: Diesel injector test
There is a small independent French car garage not far away, I think it might be worth getting them to have a look at it.
