xantia woes - more finicky things that drive me nuts

Post by davoxx »

I need to change the number plate light on the back of my estate, but my fat fingers mean that although I was able to just remove the old one, I have dropped and broken 3 replacements. I tried to remove the holder, but can't seem to figure out how it pops out, and even if I could, would it make a difference. Any ideas?

Also the electric front seat no longer moves back/forward, the plastic sleeve that joins the bar to the motor has cracked, does anyone know the part number?
why?

Can you post your VIN up if you want parts (the Forum software will immediately mask it from public view, but I will be able to see it)

Ok, so click to zoom this diagram and let me know which part you are referring to and then I can let you know the part number:

As for the rear light, it shouldn’t need to come out if it’s the bulb you need to change. The plastic lens can be levered off with a thin flat head screwdriver. If you do need to remove the whole unit it again should lever out.

Thanks Marc!!
I managed to the bulb in but not light. There is 9v there, and the other side works. Guess I'll have to pull it out.

The part of the seat the broke is the plastic sleeve for a 6mm square bar.

I don't see that part in your diagram, it probably is part of the base of the seat.

It failed the NCT on these annoying issues, and it may well be the death of the car.

'fixed' the chair tube - a bit of piping to hold glued together parts of the original tube - works for now!!
the reg light was rusted to f, and i broke the holder pulling off the fused part

now for the mind scratcher - after fixing the reg light, my rear lights on the left of the boot stopped working, trying to fix that, i shorted something (while measuring voltage) a popped a bulb, but i also seem to have stopped the right rear lights on the car from working, and now the right reg light is no longer working, not even getting 12v.

i think there might be a bad earth, but to sure where to check, any ideas?
I checked the fuses, they all look good.

If it's just a missing Gnd connection (not uncommon on rear lights, and not only Xantia), and you can't track it down, just run a new connection to body from the offending fitting.
