Ok, so a couple of things:-

As you know these are 'sealed for life' so there is no fill plug as such. There were 2 types of MLC gearbox, one with cooling fins and one without - each having different capacities.
  • Gearbox casing with fins 1.9 Litres
  • Gearbox casing without fins 2.6 Litres
Type of Oil: ESSO 75W80 EZL 848 or TOTAL 75W80 H6965

Because there is no oil level detection, if there has been a leak or in the case of a repair then the gearbox must be drained and then refilled - as there is a risk of over or under filling the gearbox and this can damage it or blow the seals if over-filled.

So you need to check underneath the box to see if you can detect cooling fins as in the diagram 2 below. Make sure you have the new seal (part No. and price in the table) and then drain the oil and refill with the specified quantity above.

[1] This is the Tool for Filling[2] Remove the drain plug (1) Fitted with its seal. (you must replace the seal once removed - Citroen Part: 016430 £2.08 inc. VAT)
Note: Gearbox shown with Cooling Fins
[3] Refill the gearbox via the air vent hole ( as "a"); Using a tool similar to Diagram 1

The Total oil listed above is Total Transmission 8 gear oil (75W-80 GL-4). It meets PSA's B71 2330 spec. For easy gear changing, the GL-4 formulation is important.
