C4 Re installing glove box and glove box lid

Unread post by Dov Kredo »

Hello all,

New here (also new with Citroen, I was a Renault man for 25 years...), I am asking for help in getting the glove box and it's lid back to place.

It took a lot of efforts to get it out, so I can replace one of the plastic parts for the climate control system. On the way, I have separated the lid from the box, and now it seems impossible to get the hinges back into the spring holders.

Is there a certain way to to that?

(Next will come the question how to get the whole thing back to place... that too is not so clear to me, and I needed help from an electrician to get the last stage (excreting to box from the dash), and I hope to accomplish the job on my own)

Thank a lot,

Dov, Israel.

Hi and welcome.

Best thing to do is to pop up your VIN and I will take a look at the specifics for your car and year to see what I have.

The lid does just clip back on, keep trying at different angles and you will do it!

If you keep having trouble then let us know as I have two gloveboxes in the garage (don't ask!) and I'll have a play and tell you how exactly.

Hi,

thank you for answering.

the VIN is VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff].

memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=15029 - Does it matter if the g. box is installed in the Dash before (trying to) install the lid?

It is also not so clear for me if it matters on what position the movement softener cog is when positioning the lid...
thanks again,

Dov

I only have the procedure for removing the glovebox itself - not the lid, so follow the advice from 'Fake Concern' regarding the lid. It shouldn't be too difficult as they have not shown a procedure for re-attaching it - so maybe a little patience and you'll get it.

Detach the glovebox lid ( 11) at "b".
Remove the glovebox lid ( 11).
Unclip and disconnect:
  • The HiFi housing ( 14)(according to option)
  • The glovebox lamp (15)
Remove:
  • The HiFi housing ( 14)
  • The glovebox lamp (15)
  • The screws (12), (13), (16) and (17)
Remove the glovebox (4).

Thank you very much (Marc?) - this will help me a lot in reinstalling the g.box, but the lid... Boy, this is something.

One have to insert the two plastic hinges into the metal holders, and they are stubborn, I tell you.

It will take me time until I get to it, so if you can help me learn if there is a way, I will highly appreciate it

If it's anything like some of the 'hydraulic' closing and opening ashtrays, they can be really difficult, it's just a matter of getting the right angle and the right amount of pressure without damaging it. I don't have a Xsara so can't provide hands on advice with this one I'm afraid.
