Computer whizz kids needed.

Unread post by Gibbo2286 »

My Panasonic Toughbook (new acquisition, second hand) pops up a message "Apache HTTP server has stopped working, Windows can look for a solution" or words to that effect.

I cant find anything 'Apache' actually on the computer by searching, any ideas?

Is this the laptop you have Diagbox installed on?

Not yet but that's the intention. I suppose it's possible that a previous owner has though.

That's not a Windows problem Gibbo - it means you have some software on your PC that is using Apache HTTP server. It is used to serve up web pages - so no reason for it to be on your PC unless you have an app that has installed it - if you don't use or need it or are aware of any programme that needs I would uninstall it. If there isn't an uninstall option, then it has likely been installed by another software programme.

If the laptop has been bought 'as is' with all the crap from the previous owner - it is always a good idea to wipe it and install the OS from scratch as you have no idea what has been left on the system and could even have all sorts of undesirable programmes or malware.

If you are planning to do so, make sure you have a CD or access to all the system drivers for the toughbook beforehand - if you don't have a system disc, then visit the manufacturer's website. You should be able to put in the serial number and it should determine all the drivers for the operating system is was designed for.

I always recommend a clean Operating System install if buying second hand.

Just done a search for diagbox on it and it does come up with a Diagbox help_ENG.pdf and a diagbox update form from v7.40 to v7.58.rar

Do you think that might be the problem?

That will just be a normal update to take Diagbox to version 7.58 Gibbo. But, I would really advise you to get the toughbook working properly before adding Diagbox or any other software or it will make troubleshooting more difficult at a later date. A software programme is not working right now as it is, so could be storing up issues later - really better to start with a clean system. Something is broken or a programme has been installed and then incorrectly uninstalled (like a directory that has been deleted without unistalling the programme for example) so the files that the programme is trying to load on startup are no longer located where they should be. You'll very likely get this nag screen until the programme trying to launch Apache HTTP Server is installed correctly or is uninstalled correctly.

Diagbox uses it, and I get the same error on mine - and this is on the installation that won't work.... I suspect the two are linked! I haven't been able to find much out about it; the software is supposed to install the required Apache - you can't easily download and install it so far as i can see. I haven't managed to get any further with mine - no need at the moment, but I don't suppose that will continue forever!!

Never had that issue on any of my installs chaps on any OS - so inclined to think it's a leftover installation problem from previous installs. It will need manually cleaning if not installing the OS again as just reinstalling DB probably won't clear the orphan files.
