Finally got a 407 coupe, but....

Unread post by madmaxgav »

Finally after years of wanting one, I got one (this'll teach me to impulse buy).
I was under the impression all 407 coupes had front parking sensors? Mine doesn't, and that front end isn't the easiest to judge :rofl2:
I've still got to spend some time getting to grips with all the buttons, never seen so many, and the damn voice control isn't exactly Alexa, but what a car, can't remember the last car I drove that's so quiet inside.

Congrats. I've been wanting a 407 coupe for some time. Only problem being the horrendous tax on the 2.7L HDi engine. Completely unjustified in my opinion.

What engine and gearbox has yours got?

I was originally going for a 2.7hdi, but agree the tax is extortionate. Opted for a 2.0hdi with a 6speed manual. In tomorrow for terraclean and remap, couple of daft things I need to sort on it, lack of front parking sensors still confuses me, and today I learned that the heaters only blow hot, can't get them to blow cold.

^ You may find that the heater will sort itself out before too long.
Mine does that on the passenger side occasionally.

Heater issue could be the mixer flap control motors. Parking assistance is likely to be one or more sensors (Diagbox will be able to identify) or if you put the ignition on and put her in reverse, if you very lightly place your finger tip near the surface if each of the sensors, you should feel a slight pulsing feeling.
You should be able to detect a faulty one if it doesn’t pulse.

Seems to be both drivers and passengers side. My wife was complaining about it when I took her out in it earlier :rofl2:
It's not that the sensors don't work, the rear ones do and the display on the nav. The front ones are actually not there at all, the bottom of the bumper has bumps where they would normally be. Makes me wonder if for some reason mine came from factory without them at the front.... as I found out pulling back into my garage, oops

A full spec read out will tell you whether they were fitted or not. But in the meantime is it possible that the car has had a replacement bumper fitted?

Front ones were part of one of the option packs - but if you pop your VIN up I can send you the specs. and I'll see which heating system and components you have.

Thanks bud, appreciate that.
There's only me that can buy a car ordered by a semi-tight ****** who doesn't even ask for a cd changer Grrrr. Still need to sort this heating issue, damn thing blows hot constantly.
I see it says RT4 navigation. I've seen aux ports in the back of the glove box, but can't find a cd changer anywhere. Is there any way to give this thing bluetooth? There's only so much of 1 cd or radio I can listen to before I end up turning it all off and driving silent.

The CD player will play mp3 files, so you can burn quite a few on to a CD.

If it is the RT4 you can fit a USB cable to it so that it can read MP3 files from a flash drive. The usb feature will need enabling with Mirascripts though.

Some info here: http://rt4.wikidot.com/usb

Also the cd changer can be fitted if you want, but it won't play MP3 CDs - only the built in single slot in the Head Unit.

The RT4 is a nice system and has voice control, so you can add voice tags to phone contacts and dial using the tags - ditto for navigation addresses - not quite as good as native bluetooth dialing but better than nothing.

The USB upgrade will give you access to MP3s on a USB stick so not too bad there either EDC5 has done the upgrade so plenty of help available here :-D

On the heater front - that will likely be the air mixer flap controls that suffered with the plastic gears wearing - I'll get some diagrams up shortly.

You can't add native Bluetooth support to the Head Unit and I really wouldn't recommend trying to put an aftermarket one in as the RT4 is heavily integrated into the vehicle systems.

A tip from my RT3 days:- The RT3 was similar - so what I did was get a SIM card for the RT3 unit (like the RT4 has)

  • Add one contact in your mobile named for example 'Car Divert' and add this as the number: *21*your car phone mobile here#
  • Add another contact named for example 'Car Undivert' and just enter this code as the number: #21#

Then when you're setting off for a drive just hit the speed dial for the 'Car Divert' contact and all your calls will come through to the car. That way people don't have to have your carphone number. To cancel just speed dial the 'Car Undivert'.

When making car phone calls, I had the car phone number withheld.
