2003 Picasso HDi - quick question

Post by Michel »

Hi All,

can someone tell me what size/type the bolts are that hold the starter motor in on a Picasso HDi (90BHP HDi engine, same as Berlingo etc). I've done one before, but can't remember and the car is some distance away from me at the moment, or I'd go and look.. have to change the starter this evening, want to be properly equipped..

cheers
M

Here you go, for a 1.6 HDi 92 (DV6ATED4): I think this should cover all the bases.

Thanks Marc, I'm pretty sure the 2.0HDi motor is different though.. for a start, one can get at all 3 bolts pretty easily :-p

I just meant all the 'bits' on the diagram for the above - for the 2.0 HDI 90 it's this one Mike:

Unfortunately thread dimensions don't give a perfect indication of spanner sizes need. Just think of all the times PSA has used nuts and bolts which require 18mm and 16mm sockets where, in a normal world, one would have expected 19mm and 17mm.

I think (going by what I felt when I was looking for the third bolt, hiding under a mounting plate) they are Torx bolts. Although I may have the right size, that third bolt could be interesting.

If they're the same as the C5 they don't have hexagon heads they're 8mm Allen screw heads.

Thanks all! I shall tell you who's right later, but from eyeballing them yesterday, just before it started to rain, I've a feeling Gibbo is right. They are definitely torx or allen screws of some description..

From memory I think they are 8mm allen bolts.
The main cable is 13mm & the solenoid connection is either 8mm or 10mm

Mr. Wheeler, and Gibbo were indeed right. Thanks again to Mr. H. Razor for coming over and providing logic. He is clearly the Captain Slow to my Clarkson...

A slightly more awkward job on the Xsara Picasso 2.0HDi than on the Berlingo, as the Pic has a hydraulic clutch, and the actuator is on the side of the gearbox in the way of the lower starter bolt, but once the air filter box and fuel filter were removed out of the way, it wasn't too bad. As usual, the newer starter was somewhat larger than the original unit, and spins the engine over very quickly, and it starts first time, every time now. Next up is to replace the rear wiper blade and sort the rear washer out. Wiper works, squirter does not. It makes a noise, so it''ll be blocked or the pump dying on reverse.

The air-con man is coming to look at it on Tuesday too. If the AC, wiper, and a couple of new keys for it can be sorted, it'll be a nice car. I actually prefer it to the Grand Picasso! Shame it's not mine. I may have to look for an 08 plate late one for myself...
