My car is an early C5 X7 Exclusive tourer, first registered in June 2008.
As such it comes with the fancy auto fold back electrochrome mirrors, which are very nice.
Earlier this year the passenger side one gave up auto folding, and it just sticks out permanently.
I decided to replace the mirror assembly complete, as the folding mechanism isn't available on its own.
After a bit of searching I found what I thought was a suitable replacement from another Exclusive at a breakers yard.
It was fully guaranteed etc, with the auto fold function being fully working. It also looks as if it has the electrochrome glass.
Now here's the problem. The old mirror has two separate cables and plugs, but the new one has only one cable and plug.
Does anyone know if the design has been changed, or have I been sold the wrong mirror?
As yet I haven't had a chance to try it but if anyone can enlighten me I'd be very grateful.
Philip

Re: C5 X7 Mirror Confusion!
Yes, the option was short lived due to the expense and the European Union regulations again - something to do with the dipping obstructing the viewing range, so you might miss children. I have these mirrors on mine too. The option on these has the electrochrome function, left and right indexing in reverse, plus the memory positioning for both mirrors as set with the climate control and electric seat positions, as well as being heated and with the fold back.
The replacement mirror alone for our model is, wait for it, a tad under £911.00!
So guard with kid gloves. So you can either do without the extra options or find an exact replacement part. If you want the part number, post up or PM your VIN.

Re: C5 X7 Mirror Confusion!
Hi Marc
Thanks for the information, even if it's not exactly what I wanted to hear
The cost a new mirror is almost half the value of the car!
As far as I'm concerned I can live without the memory and reversing functions, but the electric adjustment, fold back, heating, and electrochrome functions are useful.
If I fit the later mirror will I still have these?
Again, many thanks for your help.

Re: C5 X7 Mirror Confusion!!
Hi Philip
So it would seem you have bought a mirror with even less functionality (see my last diagram in the table).
There are at least 7 types of passenger mirror depending on your build, so I would need your VIN. Then I can get you the part number for the replacement identical to yours and you can at least search on the right within the second hand market.

Driver / Passenger Mirrors (6410 &6415) Above 6445 and 6446 are for the Electrochrome supply and Earth function only. These 2 wires go into the 6 pin Black Connector (6V NR) |
Mirror Electrical Function passenger Mirror (6415): the other 4 wires going into the 6 Pin Black plug along with the electrochrome in first diagram are positional commands left right up/down. The Foldback Functions are handled in the other 10 Pin Black connector (wires 6422, 6410 & 6479). |
Your Second Hand Mirror As you can see, it is likely you have bought the wrong mirror. This one has only the Up/Down Left/Right and Fold back option and has one 10 Pin Black connector (10V NR) The Electrochrome wiring is missing - which would go into the Black 6 Pin as in the first Diagram and would be on a second cable. |

Re: C5 X7 Mirror Confusion!
Again many thanks for that Marc
Who could believe there are seven mirror variations!
I think the sensible thing to do is to put the original mirror back on the car and use a Lexia to disable the fold facility, at least they'll both match then.
I'll send you the VIN just in case I ever find the correct replacement.

Re: C5 X7 Mirror Confusion!
Hi Philip, from your VIN, I can determine that you have a slightly different mirror than the one I thought.
Yours doesn't have the Electrochrome dimming function, but is tinted and has the memory position function and fold-back.
The part numbers are:
Left: 8153SS
Right: 8153SN
So this one should fit straight in. I would keep the old one too as there are a lot of separate parts than can be replaced on these mirrors.
So the supplier in your PM seems to have the correct one. The original new price from Citroen for the Left hand one is £465.73 inc. VAT, just for a comparison.
