Timing belt change intervals

Post by Philip1927 »

Read various comments about the intervals. Some say 75k, 140k, 150k.
What is the correct one.

Reason I ask is that my Xantia HDI has done 230k miles and 70k since the last change. She's been a great servant but us starting to show her age a bit and I am reluctant to spend a load of money if she ends up in the knackers yard in a year or so.

Hi and welcome.

What is the year and what is the model (110 or 90)? - or the VIN

Officially, it's none of those for the HDi engine.

For HDi engines it is 99.5k miles (160k kilometres) or 10 years - whichever is sooner. for 'Normal' driving conditions; or 74.5k miles (120k kilometres) for 'Arduous' driving conditions (hard driving, dusty environment, very hot countries).

The later Hdi engines are 100k. I bought a BX estate which looked very well maintained so didn't change the belt - it broke at 114k, don't know what the recommendation was then but a lot less than that I think.

Thanks for the replies. My Xantia was registered 1999 so I guess it's 99.5k miles. Good news as it won't have to change the belt this year.
Like I said I have had the car 10 years, I am just the second owner and she has been a good servant but has one or two niggles and is showing her age so I am not keen on spending big bucks at this stage.

Yes, that’s the interval as recorded in the technical information and the same year as my old Xantia.
