I've read all the posts relating to the oil, JW3309, just wondered if anyone has heard of this brand. The previous owner followed Monsieur Pug's advice and did diddly, so at 165K miles I think it's a bit overdue!

I thought 10 litres, 2 changes straight away and then another in a month?
The price seems really cheap, possibly too cheap?
Any advice gratefully received.
Cheers
Pete

Re: am6 oil
If you can, stick to Mobil ATF3309. It's the correct oil as specified in Citroen repair manuals.

Pete - Tip
Be careful with buying stuff from these, they have a few websites/online company names and the discount varies daily.
I bought some brakes discs from another one of then sites, good price, good parts, but a few weeks later when I checked I could have got them cheaper!
I started writing this message with 10% discount 5 minutes remaining,so I waited and when I refreshed the screen it went to 15% discount!!

Percentage discounts mean nothing Stu, 10% off what? the only price that matters is the one on the final invoice.

Re: am6 oil
I agree Gibbo, I don't look at the 'deals', just the figure that will be vacating my bank. Found the Mobil oil at 85 euros for 12 litres with decent shipping. Now on to engine oil. I've always used a 10w40 semi, but I've never had a car with gadgets in the exhaust! Any advice on these please?

Re: am6 oil
Everything you need to know about the recommended oils is here on the Wiki:
https://frenchcarforum.co.uk/wiki/index ... arbox_Oils
Is shows the types by your engine code and then you can decide on the particular one according to the country you are in. If you have a particulate filter you need a low SAPS oil. The specifications (Citroen / Peugeot Norms) for your car should be in the service book - and then you can cross march with the info on the Wiki.
So if it's for your 405 - make sure tyou look for the DW10BTED4 with particle filter (but not the Euro 5 version) Your engine is the RHR variant.

Re: am6 oil
Must be getting old and slow. So many different specs. It reminds me of when my dad asked me to program the video player back in the 80's! Found the spec, any advise on brand? Taking mileage into consideration, I'm assuming that regular changes are more important than brand as any damage done has been.
Stu, the price with 15% off is more expensive than the price with 10%!

I agree that the important thing is the final price, in most cases, but how they get there is worth noting as well.

Indeed. It might just indicate that there is a possibility of an even better price!Sloppysod wrote: 08 Jul 2018, 14:55I agree that the important thing is the final price, in most cases, but how they get there is worth noting as well.

It's quite simple really, the seller decides what he needs to make a profit, adds fifty percent for the asking price, the RRP, then offers it with a ten percent discount off the RRP, he takes a few suckers at that price then as it all slows down offers it at fifteen percent off the RRP......then twenty and he's still quids in.

Re: am6 oil
If the price is good to you buy it, bit like buying currency for your holidays. Everything fluctuates. Anything is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.
BTW Gibbo, what oil do you stick in your motor, looks a very similar age / spec to my 407?

Thanks Gibbo, I believe it's 5,3l for a change? Does 5l do it considering what's still lurking inside?

Yes 5 litres did mine and a bit left over including the filter change but mine's a C5 2.0l HDI 136 and the handbook says the capacity is 4.8 litres.
