These would appear to be designed for vehicles that have been remapped - but this is a question that you really need to be asking the supplier as they make them. But if your turbo has failed - you need to ascertain the reason for failure first - which they clearly state, as well as inspecting the compressor and turbine housing before fitting.

What is the lifetime of turbo if regular maintenance e.g. oil change?

How long is a piece of string? Depends on your driving style and maintenance for one, plus are you one of those who pull up after a journey and switch the engine off straight away without allowing the turbo to spin down? That can cause the turbo to keep spinning without any lubrication and shorten the life of it. Very hard to say, but in all my years of HDi diesel ownership, never had any issues whatsoever with the turbo.

I wouldn't have thought that a turbo would be turning fast enough to whine at idle - could though be wrong, has been known.

Yep, worn turbo's they tend to wine when on boost rather than at idle.

Rather than turbo being knackered, it might just be a leak from the exhaust/emissions system that is dependant on position of an egr/dump valve and therefore only heard when the engine is at idle???
My turbo whistles at the moment when on boost, but that's from a boost leak, not wear in the Turbo.

What car is this on?

Not a great news, at the garage said metal pole turbine is worn because of oil lump clot in oil feed pipe to turbo which is starve of oil that is the reason why is whine at idle. Condition on pole is very bad as he show me.
Now it has been send to recondition and balance for £235. I reckon the previous own may have not change oil filter regular!

Is this engine a 1.6HDi by any chance?

interesting topic for me, one of the neighbour's modern Vauxhalls has quite a loud Turbo whine, I usually hear it as he pulls away; didn't think it could be right, but wasn't sure. Won't bother him to mention, he's not the preventative maintenance type.

If it's the same as a recent request, I think it is a 306 2.0 HDi 90 Paul.....

Ok, sorry to hear that news.

As others have said, it's very unusual for the oil feed to block and the turbo to fail on one of these engines.
