Blocked EGR

Unread post by RPWC »

What are the symptoms of this on the 1.6 hdi? Think I may have this, which side is it located on the Dispatch?

If it was blocked completely then you'd suffer from slightly higher MPG and performance :rofl2:

If it is stuck open however it can cause poor idle and loss of power amongst other things.

What symptoms are you having and do you have any engine warning lights on?

No warning lights but it jas a funny smell around it, occasionally puffs of black smoke when taking up drive after gear change. Not all the time but the smell is there all the time
Thinking of putting bottle of injector cleaner through again and maybe taking back to garage I bought from to get checked before warranty expires on 6/7.

Strangely enough my Mk1
Dispatch had a strange smell, but loss of power with it
Turned out to be a blocked catalytic converter

Here you go Rich, number 1 in the diagram, so round the back at the bottom right!

Update
After removing cabin filter I could hear what sounded like air pipe off, found the air intake had come out of its housing in air filter box pushed it back in but the plastic tab on the filter box is not holding, so gaffer tape will hold until I can get replacement air filter housing. Disconnected maf and test drove, no smoke, reconnected maf, road tested , again no smoke so is it possible the maf was overcompensating by telling ecu to add more fuel, because of the extra air induction?

Ps Marc, that diagram is different to my van, is that for Berlingo? Dispatch is on side of engine under cabin filter housing

Dispatch Rich - I was going off an old VIN - (ending in 013) - have I been using an older Van?

Not sure mate but mine is located right side of rocker cover just under the cabin filter, it’s a totally different shape to the one you posted, but I found it now anyway thanks. What do you think to my earlier question re air intake?

Yep, any air leak disconnected hose like that will cause over compensation and rough running Rich.

If it's the same setup as mine...
The MAF sits between the airbox and the turbo.

The air pipe "clipped" into the airbox doesn't hold in place on mine either. I bought a new airbox because the locating lugs underneath were snapped off but still that pipe doesn't hold. I'm using duck tape too. The moulded "lug" on my pipe is worn flat and the cost of a new pipe from Citroen is a joke so it's not getting replaced anytime soon.

As this pipe (and the airbox) are upstream of the MAF, any airleak there won't affect injection calculations.

Seems funny though that after reconnecting the pipe, the black smoke stopped?

Any lack of air intake into the system is going to cause problems with the injection ECU.
