Zx tie rod end

Post by dannyboy84 »

Hi guys, just installed new CV boot, new wishbones and now I am doing new tie rod ends. Problem is I am having difficulty undoing the old ones.
Do they just unscrew off with the nut? The nut doesn't seem like it can screw up towards the gaiter?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Danny

The nut is a lock nut only; the track rod end is screwed into the rack. Leave it connected to the hub, clean the threads behind the nut and spray with Plus Gas or other release agent and leave to soak. Back the lock nut off 1/2 turn; now find the flats on the track arm and try and unscrew it from the TRE. You may or may not be able to do this depending on how rusted it is. If necessary apply a hammer and or some heat to get it moving - get it going a turn or two, before breaking the taper on the hub. Now just unscrew the TRE. Transfer the locknut position to the new TRE (noting that the thread length may not be the same!) and refit to the car. Get the tracking adjusted!

Thanks for that mate appreciated
All done now and tracking sorted to.
Nearside came off no problems but offside was a nightmare, eventually with heat I got it moving.

Thanks again
