Big error on my new Tomtom

Unread post by JohnD »

Although I have Myway satnav in my C5, I prefer using my old Tomtom. Recently, because the maps can no longer be updated, I changed it for a new Go620. Yesterday I had it programmed to take me south down the A3 to the M25 then along to the M3. A mile before the M25, Tomtom began warning me to keep to the left lane for the slip road. Then as I approached the roundabout I was given the instruction to join the M25 following the signs for Gatwick Airport. At the roundabout a huge sign for Gatwick indicated the first exit. Living locally, I realized the error and instead took third exit "following the signs for Heathrow". But for the stranger who blindly followed Tomtom's instruction, they would have had a journey of 16 miles before being able to "Turn around when possible".

Wonder if they will react to my Mapshare report?. :)

Unlikely, After having it correct for several years, they decided that the street we live on in France is a one way street (which it never has been), I have sent corrections at every map update for the past 2 years, but no change.

Tomtom in my experience is a soul-less company which makes arbitrary changes to product features (usually removal) during updates and their software has in almost all respects regressed in the 10 years that I have been using it. It is almost impossible to get meaningful responses from their technical support beyond a general instruction to reset the device and try again.

Mine sends 'Spence Lane' traffic through my garden, there was a right of way through there about 50 years ago.

Maybe there still is!

That doesn't mean the right of way has gone Peter, you could find some bolshie rambler group trying to force you to re-open it. :-D

Ah well its a bridle path anyway so we get our fair share of passers by but there is a stables at the bottom of the track and we know them. I think it has been removed on some sat navs now. We do get walkers up here but we don't mind unless they pick all our blackberries!
