Mildew!!

Unread post by superloopy »

My V6 xantia is currently penned in by a non running TD and has been 'over wintered' shall we say. Just managed to get a look inside with a view to getting her up and running again to find its mildew city in there, obviously damp getting in. Steering wheel, doorcards and what looks garder to get rid of on the seatbelts. Whats the best approach? Any recommended cleaning solutions out there?

A damp microfiber cloth (a few of them) with a mix of washing up liquid and hot water, dip, squeeze and wipe, rinse well and repeat. You need to remover the spores

Open every door and let it air out very well then hoover well and wipe down again. Clean the leather with good leather cleaner and then again later, once clean use a leather feed cream.

Thanks.
Typically the weather is absolutely rubbish today, damp cold and windy so i'll sort the bits out. Problem i've got is that i cant fully open the doors, space is tight. I've NEVER seen this in a car before, its 'orrible!!

It can happen. Bacteria - especially on a leather steering wheel, and lurking in the AC - can multiply in damp conditions where there is no air circulation.
Apart from WUL, you could also try a bit of bio clothes washng liquid in warm water, and finish off with some diluted Milton or diluted bleach.

What about an air-coditioning 'bomb'? Supposed to clean the air con system of unwelcome biological grobbleys.
