Pollen filter (cabin filter)

Unread post by fv43576 »

When I switch the fan on full lots of dust and pieces of dead fly coming out of my vent. I thought it needs to replace new pollen filter. I have order one and I could not find anywhere till I have found it was under windscreen bottom frame cover on Youtube video. I open there is no pollen filter in! My have Aircon it is 2001 Meridian Estate 2.0HDI the area where the pollen filter is looks like it does not existent. Am I right?

Is this the 306 you've posted about previously, VIN ending 296?

There's no mention of one on this that I can see anywhere.

The XM was never fitted with a pollen filter, but it's sister car the 605 (with the same A/C system) was for later production. The 605 pollen filter was simply added at the air intake under the scuttle, and I have retrofitted one to my XM. You may be able to do something similar.

Yes, that's also where they seem to be on the 307 too - I certainly would try and fit something if possible as there really isn't anything to filter out all the bugs and other crap coming in.

One important thing to keep in mind is that if the filter is on the suction side of the blower, the blower efficiency is significantly reduced by any restriction, so the surface area of the filter should be greater (maybe 50%) than an equivalent filter after the blower.

For inspiration, here is the adapter for the 605 with a filter:

An here it is with a filter squeezed into the scuttle on my XM (before fitting the rain cover):

Correct,306`s do NOT have a pollen filter.
If you have lots of crap getting into the cabin remove the plastic grill around the wipers and give the bay a good clean out. Also make sure the rubber cover over the blower motor is in place.
