C5 Spheres on eBay two for £45 + £8.50 postage ?

Post by spiff »

Good evening, two sunny days on the trot, amazing : )

I have just sold my old Plieiades Xantia sphere removal tool on eBay for £70 plus postage, so if you have one laying around : )

Now looking at front suspension spheres for the C5.

The pair listed below appear to be remarkably cheap, have any of you gentlemen any experience of this company and their products.

It says that the price quoted is for two spheres.

At a quick check they look to be compatible for my C5 2003 petrol estate.

I shall check further before purchasing.

I am not expecting to own the car for a long time, so top quality is not required.

Seller is Mister Auto, which is a PSA subsidiary. I use them here, and very good.
Lizarte spheres are made in Spain ("Will not post to Spain"!!??!) and don't have a particularly good reputation.
Try Mister Auto's own website for other makes - they normally list plenty.

Spiff, for your Front Spheres, the Citroen part number is 5271 H8. Although genuine Citroen long life originals are preferred, they are expensive at £168.34 each!

Thankyou Chris and Mark,

Chris at first glance the spheres on Mr Autos own site are more than twice the price, though no doubt a better quality, buit I shall dig deaper.

Thank you for the Citroen part number Marc, I can now be certain of obtaining the correct type.

This car is throwing up a lot of problems, must be her age and miles : )

I have never in 50 or more years had so many faults, one after the other : )

My old standard Vanguard an ex WD one, which I used to drive from London to Manchester and back each week end at 90 mph to see Alanna, never broke down once.

Never mind it is interesting LOL

I have just emailed the seller

Though the vehicle type is the same as their listing : -

Citroën C5 2003 DE_ [2001-2004] Estate 2.0 16V 1997ccm 136HP 100KW (Petrol)

Their Citroen part number is different OE/OEM Number: 5272.68, 5276.22

Is a different pressure or what have you going to cause major problems ?

The genuine ones have membranes that are extremely gas permeable-resistant, and better quality than some third party brands that use the older type of membrane material that I think they used on the older LHM green spheres. ThT makes them last much longer, but they will at some point give I suspect with all the other factors considered.

On the contrary, I am on Lizarte spheres running my fifth year on the Xantia and its still perfect. Got them for 20 euros each.

Last time i had bought IFHS spheres and they were gone by the third year, and were more expensive.

I believe their C5 spheres should be pretty good too. Why dont you buy directly from http://www.mister-auto.co.uk/en/

Good to hear that life of Lizarte spheres has improved. €20 each was astonishingly cheap.

Spiff, always stick to the correct pressures and type for your car. They are different according to engine, weight etc., so you have the pressure and volume for the correct one for your car.

Those parts numbers are not right for your C5 and I suspect are rears in any case, but still incorrect.

...and not just pressure and volume that needs to be right, but damper aperture as well, in the case of the corner (wheel) spheres.

You dont specify whether you have a hydractive 3 or hydractive 3 plus. there is a big difference between the two spheres.

He does not have hydractive 3+. The part numbers I have given him are correct for his car. I don’t see the problem.
