Dear all,
I was wondering if anyone had any insights into the feasibility of swapping out my 2006 C3 1.4 Hdi DV4 8HZ engine with a 2005 Peugeot 206 8HX variant. My car has done 213K miles and the recent cambelt snap has made me realised it's not going to go on for ever is it(?) so why not put an engine that's done 80K in it?
I've picked up on something about fuel pumps and injectors somewhere that may cause a compatibilty issue.
You might ask why not just do a straight swap with a 8HZ - it's just that the 8HX is around the corner and convenient!
Many thanks
Sidney

Assuming we are talking the HDi 70:
As you can see, there are subtle differences in the actual engine variation - The torque is less on the 206 variant, but more importantly, the injection system is also different. So I can't say for sure, but I suspect you may have issues with the injection ECU as it will be designed for the different engine. It is also possible that there may be other differences that are not so apparent - especially with the turbo / or other equipment - but without VIN codes for a comparison - it is difficult to say off the hoof.

Thanks Marc,
I expect you're right - if I'm honest things often go wrong even when parts seem identical so starting from a position where I know there's a difference is probably asking for trouble.

Will you have access to the ECU from the donor engine too?
That would make things easier surely?

Alas not. But yes it's a good point and I suppose if I do source an engine in the future I may as well try to get the the ecu as well as insurance.
