Citroen Dispatch 2.0HDi siemens 803a Rough/cuts out warm.

Post by XLTed »

Hi all. Hope someone can help. I'm new to posting but have visited many times in past to read. I normally find a solution. This time I'm stumped. :?
My Dispatch 2.0HDi SID 803a.(57) 92 000 mls.
It starts on first stroke every time when cold, runs smooth (bit of a rumble from bell housing area I've been advised is dual mass clutch, I can sort this later). A little puff on hard throttle perhaps. A bit of turbo whistle I'd expect more on remapped boy racer, may be just me, as its always done it since i had it 2 years ago.
BUT now when at running temp (90c) it is erratic, unresponsive to throttle but will catch and rev, but no power, bellows acrid eye burning diesel fumes, lots of it, greyish smoke, Ive seen them smoke like this on regen but mine is pre EOLYS. The first time it happened I thought the big ends had gone the injector knock is so bad. At 70c the injector(s) begin tack tack louder than usual and will get louder when given a bit of throttle, also smoke more than usual but not really bad.

I've removed tank emptied diesel, refilled with fresh BP. New temp sensor. New intercooler (old one was blowing at revs a little).

De pollution fault will show when it cuts out when its smoking but doesn't show before.
I've had injectors tested, they spray good. But they were tested cold not at running temperature.
I've had it in to Swadlincote Diesels, local diesel specialist, they havn't an idea, need dealer diagnostic may be wiring or ECU/Bsi problem. process of elimination that may get expensive they told me.
If wiring damage why so precise in its symptoms?.ECU well thats me out, off Citroen.

Diagnostic I get
P1198.Injector Control ECU Fault.
P0087. Fuel rail pressure low.

But that can change sometimes I don't get a code??

On a live test the other day I got Fuel Pressure 328 bar. Fuel Pressure Measured 76 bar. Whilst cranking after it cut out.
As it cooled the Measured pressure went up until it started.I thought I'd found problem but later I tested it again both measured the same 328 bar cranking and it would not start???? Why was pressure down first time. why is it not firing if fuel pressure is adequate this time?? If fuel is being injected and timing out say, then I should get smoke? None. Therfore fuel is not being injected?

A few days before this nightmare started I ran out of fuel, literally 100 yards from pump, I had spent that morning stuck on motorway sucking my tank dry. In future don't rush to next job without filling up!.
First thoughts dirty or contaminated fuel hence emptying tank, also to check if lift pump had packed in, to find that Siemens suck.
I keep thinking I have an air lock, I can see air in fuel pipe past filter, but on forums many people report this and you can't buy parts you have to buy complete fuel and return pipework at £110 + vat. also I did read a post guy replaced this and the filter housing to find it still sucked air and is usual with this system especially when revved, ?? But what is excessive? And I've heard tack tack of newly fitted injector as it purges itself of air, which is same.

I've looked in at EGR, it is difficult to get at on Dispatch below scuttle panel, but with pipe removed EGR was closed as far as I could see (endoscope from ebay less than £10 plugs into USB). If i'm advised it definetley probably is EGR I could struggle to remove it, actually its getting it back on. But ball ache to do it just because.

There is no sludge in oil, coolant level is constant.

Allow it to cool below a level it will start no problem. It also turns off no problem at any point so not self fuelling from say turbo. It will restart when mid way warm if turned off and back on. Will not start until cooled right down if gone into bad running or cut out.

I can't get BSi to recognise plip on keys usual hold 10 second after ignition method, I mention this as only other fault and is BSi related.

Help Please.
