C5 Mk1 Speedo Needle Repair

Post by Xantianut »

Ay up!

My old bus's speedo failed coming back from Stafford. Diagnosis revealed a well buggered stepper motor and equally buggered needle.

Motors are easy to get hold of and to fit. Even the instrument pack is easy to remove and strip down. And Lexia makes calibration easy! The dog's bananas in fact.

Needles are less easy to find unless you want to risk 2nd hand or dodgy looking "aftermarket" items. So I used a dodge from my railway modelling. Most of my steam locos have repositionable headlamps using a hole drilled in the lamp filled with blu-tac. Works on speedo and rev counter pointers equally well!

Probably nothing to do with your repair but did come across these 2 vids faffing about with the innards of a c5 speedo.

This one uses a plastic toothpick a lighter and some superglue to fix a speedo problem!
