Remapping

Unread post by qprdude »

Does a remap have to be declared for insurance purposes?
Is it worth doing ?
Can it create problems with an auto box?
Cheers

Yes it does have to be declared Rick as it is increasing the engine power from the manufacturer’s declaration.
On a manual it would put more stress on the clutch and DMF as it would have to handle more power - I never went through with mine as I was advised to have the clutch and DMF replaced before as it was on the cusp of slipping.

I suspect an Auto would be able to handle the extra easily enough as the same boxes are used on the higher output engines, although the programming of the gear changes may well be different to reflect he extra power.

Cheers Marc. It was just a though really and more for extra MPG than power but I suspect the cost of the remap would never be recovered in fuel costs. The cars quick enough for me really although I've had a lot quicker.
