Xantia Clarion CD Unit not working

Cassette (which will not come out) carries the number CAA355

The message on the head unit when switched to CD says CONNECT

Although I have enjoyed going through and playing my old cassettes, I would like to be able to play CDs in the car, and I don't like things that are fitted not to be working. Can anyone suggest possible causes and solutions please? Should the cassette eject button work even if there was no power getting to the unit? Memory suggests that it should? What is the way to discover if the cable is connected into the head unit correctly - or at all?

Not made myself clear I now realise. It is the carrier for the CDs that won't eject from the unit in the boot, the cassette operation in the head unit is fine. Sorry.
