CX to the Ardennes this time!

So, buoyed by its trip to Flanders last week, on Weds/Thurs just gone a friend and I embarked on a slightly longer trip to the Ardennes and (hopefully!) Back
The trip did not start well as my fears were realised as the sodding thing cut out at passport control and then wouldn't restart....... In my panic to move it I churned it over on the starter motor a d in the ensuing melee the gear linkage popped apart......
Luckily the gear linkage was a easy fix, ball joint popped back on, and in desperation i sprayed brake cleaner at the 2 crank sensors and by the time i got the spare wheel assembly back in it fired up and somewhat sheepishly we hopped onto the Eurotunnel. The car then reeled of over 900 miles without a hitch. It was SUPERB.
Very very quick and just so accomplished doing what it was designed to do-hours of high speed cruising
So, I'm now certain that the cutting out is worse in higher ambient temperatures but can it really be the crank sensors seeing as I'm running new Ford replacement ones?
Anyway, what a stunning bit of kit! My friend who has a new 330 diesel BMW was genuinely impressed with it's relaxed high speed cruising.

Hey Bilkob, so the gear-linkage just supposed to pop back in (with no pins?). The DTR (your last one) popped that back in November on the dual carriage way and I just popped it back in recently having been so busy, still haven't had time to MOT it though...

Yep, I did over 150 k in my last one a CX25 DTR Turbo Safari - still miss it.

what sort of engine speeds are you talking in that at 70mph-ish?

I did a direct comparison of costs Eurotunnel v Ferry a few weeks back and noted that the Tunnel was almost exactly double that of the ferry.

Not sure I'm willing to incriminate myself with engine speeds, half expecting something in the post!
I just find the Chunnel SO much more convenient and without the lure of awful food and the mild reek of diesel......

'tis my understanding that any penalty incurred abroad will generally only be enforced should you come to the attention of the plod of that country, for any other reason.

I had a speed camera flash at me on the D1001 years back, never received owt; but in general, one of the 'benefits' of running a 1.9 na Diesel is that its easier not to speed.

Fuel pump relay? The "big blue" Bosch one found behind / near the offside headlamp. I had something similar happen recently - as in starting up, idling OK for as long as it took for the suspension to rise, and then cutting out - so when told to check the "big blue" and its socket plus connecting cables, I waggled the cables and played about with the seating of the relay in its socket. The car then started and fired-up as if nothing untoward had happened. The relay and socket is quite exposed so I can see how corrosion can set into the electrical connection.

My big blue and the other fuel relay live in plastic (vented) and drenched in WD40.....
but I DON`T know their history......

Might be advisable to carry a spare of each. Just in case.....

The Citroen tradition of exposed front-end relays continued for many years: XM suffered these too, affecting headlights, cooling fans, ignition control, glowplug operation and ABS - but easy enough to clean up.
