Need a big advice about C5 display.

Unread post by fv43576 »

My grandmother took a test driver on the C5 LX version 2001 110HDI with a very low mileage, she notice there is two problem. The centre display it should have temperature numbers on it but it is only two dots with Celsius at the end is this means thermostat broken on the wing mirror or it is because it on base low of the range are not include? and the trip computer MPG, range and average speed did not show on display, on the right stalk at the end of it button is not push in. Is this fault or is not available on LX?

I hope someone can point me this a problem or not before she agree to buy this car.

Can't say for certain but I think it is most likely a fault with the display unit - easily replaceable but if you attempt it yourselves then get one from a higher model (SX and up) as they are a straight swap and display more information.

Best to let the seller fix it for you if that is possible though as it could be a problem remote from the display - as you say with the temperature, this often points to a failed thermistor or broken wires.

Yes - Two dashes on the display where the external temperature should be, means the thermister in the wing mirror is defective or unplugged.

AFAIK, the LX should still have full trip computer (my 2001 HDI 110 bhp LX did/does). The end of the right hand stalk should press on to change function, as you suggest. Wonder if someone has had to replace the Com2000 unit complete with stalks (or just the stalk) and fitted one for a different Citroen that doesn't have a trip computer?

Even worst case (yours didn't have it from new) you can still fit it easily enough - all you would need to do is fit the correct stalk and potentially enable it in the ecu via a lexia.
