Xsara no brake lights at all!!

Unread post by Gubba bump »

Evening. After a drive home my wife informed me I have no brake lights at all. I have reversed against a wall and checked-nothing! I've done some searching and it looks like a pedal switch? At £3 On eBay I've bought one just in case. Should I start looking at fuses too? Anything I should start looking in to?
Model is a 1999 1.6 stateside. All other lights seem ok. Thanks chris

Things to check are bulbs, the earth for the rear light cluster and brake switch as you have ordered.

Would one bulb blown cause both cluster and 3rd light to fail?

I've also added a pic of the brake switch just incase

To eliminate the switch simply disconnect the plug and join the two together pins in the wires together, a paperclip is all you need and if the lights come on with the ignition on it's the switch that's faulty, if not you need to look elsewhere.

I didn't have a paperclip but I tried one of those ladies hair clips but nothing happened. I just stuck it inn the end of the plug?

Hairclips are coated with a varnish to smooth off sharp edges so that they can slide into hair easily. Did you remove that and scrape back to shiny metal?

I didn't, but it was raining cats and dogs so only spent 2 mins out there. Hopefully the replacement plug will arrive tomorrow. Thanks for the help all.

Paperclip trick worked. What's the process for removing the old switch? Just pull out? Thanks
