C5 heater blower resistor

Post by bazzer123 »

This is giving me a headache, been through hundreds of pages trying to find the location of my heater Resistor, almost taken out my dashboard in the process but it's nowhere to be found. Starting to think that my pile of s**t hasn't got one, The Muppet who had it before me has bodged so much on the car(Starting to think it's chop job).
Nothing on the drivers side or the passengers side
Please help before I pour petrol over it and walk away.
My vin is VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff].
Many thanks in advance. [-o<

Others can decipher your VIN but it would be helpful to know the year of the car. If it's a Mk1 (and probably facelift Mk2 as well) there are two different types depending on whether it's the fully automatic climate control or the basic aircon and they are both buried in the footwell. The 2008 onwards Mk3 (X7) is also in the footwell

I know - I've done them on both my C5s!
As I get older I think a lot about the hereafter - I go into a room and then wonder what I'm here after.

It's Item 4 on this diagram - according to your VIN there is one - look at the second diagram (item 3) - this would show it on the left hand side - it slots in so maybe that's why you can't find it,

Back as in towards the back of the car? (it's towards the front of the heater unit as you look at when sat in the car!)

Must say that the first time I've seen an inkling as to what the blower resistor looks like on a c5... Am amazed how huge that thing is! (oo-er) Way bigger than on any other car I've seen!

I dug up the procedure and then realised they ran out of room to show it on the left - so they've just shown it on the diagram where they had room it seems!

Just above the 3 on the second diagram there is a vertical clip - that is the cap that hides the cabin filter, and the resistance is just rear of that in blue item 3.

Many thanks givemeabreak. Saw it but completely dismissed it I think i was being blinded by too much information from other models on the internet. It surprises me that there are so many different versions.

Update on trying to find heater resistor.
Had a look today and found this, surely this can't be the resistor ?.
???
???
As far as I can tell this is a pre heater, there are no other wires leading anywhere. Still banging my head in this one.

Hard to see from your picture but is should like part 4 in the first diagram I posted and in reality like this:

I think there may be some confusion over what it is you are looking for. This is the air heating resistance module that helps to provide some warmth a little quicker into the cabin when it is cold.

Are you talking about the blown air module? If so , I don't think there is one - only the 'Heater Air Puller' as shown below:

What actually are the problems? Have you got it on a Lexia to interrogate the system - it could be beneficial in time and cost as it could be the heater control panel, a short, fuse, etc., ?

I am getting no air blowing through my vents, I have checked all the fuses all are fine, wiring seems fine. All as far as I can tell leads to the blower resistor which I can't find to check it out. And no I having got it put onto a lexia yet need to really( to scared to as it will probably laugh at me and tell me to scrap it).

Is it not the part in this thread that's being looked for?
