Citroen C4 Grand Picasso 2014 - Clutch issue?

Post by Mattes21 »

Hey all... =;
So..over that past few days I have noticed an issue with my grand Picasso.
The car: 2014/64 Citroen C4 Grand Picasso 2.0 BlueHdi 150 101,500 miles (motorways)
Right... My issue!
I was on the motorway the other day in 5/6 gear and when accelerating it seems as if the clutch is slipping? Revs climb and then it feels as if it bites and its back to normal.
I have also tried to use the active cruise control, again the car feels the "slip" and automatically turns the control off.
This doesn't happen in 1,2,3rd gear and can't say I've noticed it in 4th gear... No issues accelerating on day to day basis. Can safely say I've only noticed it on motorway.

Could this be a hydraulic issue? Clutch?
I just hope the clutch isn't on it ways out... [-X

Ahhhh... can somebody point me in the right direction please !? Many thanks in advance :)

Hi and welcome to the Forum.

This is very likely to be a clutch / Dual Mass Flywheel issue - assuming you have a manual. Can you PM your VIN so we can see what you have. There are several variants fitted these, from manual 6 speeds to piloted 6 speed to fully auto boxes.

If a manual, and as it is a diesel, you will have a lot of torque in the higher gears, so accelerating in 5th, but mostly 6th will show up the slippage more significantly. Be prepared to have them both replaced as they will only get worse.

If you leave it too long, there is a risk the DMF will start to break up and this can in turn cause other damage. Start saving though, as you'll need to have them both done as a DMF won't survive another clutch and in the end you'll be paying the labour out again. I suspect the cost will be anywhere from £1 to 1.5k, depending on where you get the job done.

Hi Marc,

Cheers for the reply.. Its a six speed manual box.
April 2017 I had a new clutch pedal clip and master cylinder fitted, was hoping it would be something to do with this.. Citroen did all the work.
I was really hoping not to go down the line of having a new clutch fitted etc

Ok if it's the manual, then it really is likely to be a DMF and clutch job I'm afraid. If those are the originals you have on there, than that is very good going for one of these as I had to have both mine done on the C5 X7 at 40K (previous owner had been towing with it and that is another killer for DMFs). Some have fared less well with DMFs having to be done much earlier at 20k miles - so if you have over 100K on the originals, that's good going!

If you want to know the cost of the parts from Citroen, I'll need your VIN. Don't exclude Citroen parts / prices without checking as in many cases they have been cheaper than aftermarket parts...

Exchange Clutch Kit is £330 Inc. VAT (Part 1609071880)
New Clutch Kit is £388.19 Inc. VAT (1609063380)
Dual Mass Flywheel (9808378880) £475.79 Inc. VAT

So you have the part numbers and VAT inclusive cost from Citroen, so at least you can have a hunt about.

Hi Matt, no I don’t actually work for Citroen, although it feels like I do sometimes! 😄

Citroen have a list of ‘fixed price repairs’ that they offer for a lot of common repairs. What they have quoted for there will be the clutch kit alone I’m afraid. It’s like the timing belt replacement, they’ll quote specifically for the belt, but that won’t include the water pump or the pulley tensioners that are usually done at the same time.

If you call them back and ask them to quote for the Dual Mass Flywheel too, you’ll find the price will shoot up because of the part cost and the extra labour.

I'm going to call them first thing tomorrow morning! Was due to be going somewhere Friday too..
Anyway I can find out my disc brake size/ correct pads? most sites state there are two variations.
I have the exclusive+ with 18" alloys if that helps?

Hi Matt

The front discs should have a Diameter of 304 and a thickness of 28 (Citroen part 4249K1)
The Pads are Part number: 1612412380

Pads here on the bay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Brake-Pads-Fr ... 2236770613

As for the disks - there are lots of brands - but make sure you get the one compatible with the part number I gave you and the diameter.
