03 Citroen C5 110Bhp Hdi Vandalised

Unread post by boristhespie »

Hellooo.

So finally fitted new battery to my other C5 after it has been sitting for best part of 3-4 ýears doing nowt since I got my Exclusive.

Tanks roberW for the link. Works a treat and car drives like a treat. Is now level with my )6 C5 on mileage. Brakes warning came on. So need to get these sorted. Probably have sticking calipers as usual.

My enthusiams, however has been tempered, as some littlshits decided to smash my wing mirror and windscreen last night.

So question is, how do I remove the wing mirror (passenger side) so I can fix it. I need to get new mirror. And put this bit back into the black moulding, which has been cracked?

Also will a cracked at the bottom windscreen fail and MOT? It is under the wipers.

I would be greatful for any help.

Mirror with glass section pushed back in roughly. I need to take it out. Fit new glass and push it back into the cracked black mould.

That's a bugger Boris. Unlikely to happen but I hope the perpetrator gets a good shoeing somewhere down the line.

I suspect the screen is an MOT fail as the crack may spread and shatter the whole screen. You should be able to have it replaced through your insurance for a £75 charge. I had mine done and it was completely hassle-free. One of the national companies that enjoys a less-than stellar reputation but the fitter was excellent. Very pleasant, well mannered and good at his job.

A new mirror glass should be a fairly simple job. Mine has been knocked out a couple of times but clicked straight back in.
Can't remember if the leads just plug in or need to be soldered though.

They are just spade connectors usually Steve.

I tried pushing it back in but it was quite difficult, the glass being shattered didnt help. There are also sriff coat hanger like wires on it which I was sure where they went. The black casing is cracked on the bottom of the mirror housing. I was wondering if you can take the whole assembly off, so that I could fix it before re attaching it?

Here is a diagram of the parts of the mirror - the number of wires will differ according to options and spec - but will give you an idea of components. Underneath is the glass removal and fitting procedure.

Removing

It may be easier to index the mirror so the top of the glass is innermost to help with locating the clip at the bottom
  • Unclip the clip ( 1), Using a thin screwdriver.
  • Disconnect the connector (3) (depending on equipment).
  • Remove the glass (2) from the mirror.

Refitting
  • Ensure that the spring clip ( 1) is correctly located in its mounting.
  • Reconnect the connector (3) (depending on equipment).
  • Clip the unit onto its support.

What a bummer.

I don't think that windscreen crack will cause an MOT fail, but it will will cause the screen to go white (water creeping between the layers) which will slowly spread - if the crack doesn't first, in this cold!

For the mirrors... If you're tempted to take the front cover off (front as in facing the front of the car - item 3 in the first pic mark posted) then my research suggested they don't come off without the clips breaking.

They can be carefully 'hooked off' with a long screwdriver and eyeballs attached to the end of pipe cleaners - but emphasis on the 'carefully'.

I believe that Xantianut has managed to remove the mirror covers on Otterchops. It could be worth checking out this thread;

The last post on this page is where Papa tarts to work on the mirror.
