Summer tires in winter weather

Hello,

I would like to ask what can i expect if i drive a car on the motorway (about 120 km/h) with summer tires (Nokian Line) when the temperature is -10 C? I am talking about dry roads, no precipitation.
What would be some of the not-so-obvious things to do to maximize safety in this situation?
I know this is not a smart thing to do, but i would just be passing a cold country, on my way to a warm country, so i cant change tires every few days according to the climate.

I wouldn't worry to be honest - apart from being aware of the surrounding conditions, which is half the battle. It's not been that many years since we even had a good selection of all season or winter tyres in the UK. Many if us use summer tyres all year round here.

Like anything just apply a good dose of common sense when driving in variable conditions.

Not driving at 120km/h is probably a good idea. Slow it down a bit to 105-110 just in case of any hidden ice. As long as it's dry your tyres will be nice and warm anyway.

You might want to check the road laws in the countires you are passing through as some European countires - Germany and Austria, for example - it is complusory to have winter tyres on you car...... errrr... in the winter !

The viewpoint from the countries where winter tyres are mandatory would no doubt be along the lines of: "You can safely drive around with winter tyres fitted whilst in the warm countries, but you can't safely drive around in 'our' country in the winter with summer tyres fitted"

That is why i am changing tires in the first place. I have studded tires, and the countries i am passing through don't allow them, but they do not have set laws on winter tires. The laws just state that you should have winter tires when it is appropriate.

Have you considered fitting 'all seasons' tyres?
Michelin Cross Climate get particularly good reviews.
They count as winter tyres where the law requires them.
