Failure

This month I've passed numbers like 232323 somewhere near Stuttgart and so on, primed the odometer ahead to have 234567 with 890.1 and 891.0, and when the moment came, worked out ahead to be near Luxembourg on Boxing Day, the picture is almost all yellow, the sun must have got in, you can only just about make out the 10 to 50 markings on the left of the speedometer

Andy,

Failure! Not a chance. That is an extremely heartwarming tale.

Its a simple, many might say trivial, thread with little point (being the thread starter myself I would concede that) but I like how fellow number noticers have joined in, and perhaps even the odd non-number noticer has been infected too. Of course your little tale has the continental location which adds a touch of "glamour". Its not just the numbers its where they happen! and what you are doing, where you are heading at the time.

A bit of engineering to plan specific scenic locations, with significant mileage events is of course perfectly acceptable, and ceremoniously photograph the scene for the thread.

I think we shouldn't be fearful of apparent failure

We need your picture up in all its glory!

None of you have beaten my old xantia hdi 110 2.0 8v...
20161125_113530.jpg
The car got to 318k before finally ending its life..

But.. That car never had a head gasket or turbo.. The altinator was only changed because the lhm pump leaked onto it. And I put its third clutch in at around 200k.

Poor old girl. Was a great one.

Never had a turbo? Was it removed then as the only UK-listed HDI 110 and 90 are both turbo models :chin:

... or did you miss the word 'go' off the end? :-D

Not sure what your saying Marc. I'm saying I had that hdi from 156k and know its previous owner too also a member on here and I never needed to change the head gasket or replace the turbo...

Thought so - I was intrigued otherwise. I do miss my S2 110 Xantia - everyone who ever rode in it preferred it to the MK I C5 I had.

You're being generous with your main remarks but too kind with that request. It really is awful, just about nothing to see at all.

Well, there's still hope

I decided to have the cam belt big service a few months ago after the specialist said he'd heard of one example of that engine doing 700,000 miles.

The engine was still OK. It was body work that let it down..

Four miles before these numbers clicked over on one of my fleet, I was switched on to preserving the moment with a ceremonious photograph. In that short space of time forgot all about it and missed it.

A prile of 126's goes begging at the last moment :-D

Just a small wander off topic. We all know the holy grail of significant milages is 123456 with 789.0 on the trip ometer, but its nice to know there are others infected with the number bug.

Now this is a totally insignificant somewhat desolate place it would seem. It is some way from the nearest road roughly somewhere in the vicinity of West Linton, formerly Peeblesshire, but now Scottish Borders.

So what is significant about it for the number noticer. All revealed in the Spoiler, but I do commend the photographer driving specifically up there then hiking up the moors, not doing a selfie but taking a picture of his rucksack! Well done Jim Barton.
Spoiler: show
This is the precise (to 10M anyway) location of grid reference NT12345678 in the United Kingdom

If anyone wants to repeat the photograph with their own rucksack - then it's here (more or less)....... :)

Question....whats
temp5.png
minus
Image

Well it used to clean a big big carpet for less than half a crown and thats how many miles I have done since December 30th.

In my sailing through the Fiat-related significant milages I have missed both the prile of 126's and the prile of 127's.

Now if it gets to the 128's the Fiats start getting slightly better looking, particularly in the coupe department!
