Gearbox swap issue

Post by Z1ggy1987 »

Hi

I have had my car in the garage today (1.6 Xsara Picasso hdi 2007) for a gearbox swap. The new gear box is fitted but the car will not start. It is cranking over. My mechanic has checked every over a few times and he is pretty stumped on what the problem could be. Any advice??

Thanks

I would first of all check the crankshaft sensor. It's not unknown to forget to reconnect the plug during the refit!

I have spoken to my mechanic and he says it is stuck in economy mode with the battery light staying on. Any help please as this is my taxi so need to get working ASAP. Thanks

Economy mode is a symptom rather than a cause, so nothing to do with that. The crank sensor is on the crank pulley on these, so it won't be that. Was the flywheel changed, and is there a chance that the engine was turned backwards in the process (that's not a good thing)? You will need to get decent diagnostics on it to see what it can (or can't) see to get an idea. Loss of an earth to the ECU is common on these, might be worth piggy backing one on to see if that will make it go.

No the flywheel wasn’t touched, there’s no fuel getting where it should to start the car, it’s turning over. my concern is that the ecu has been fried when he disconnected/ connected the battery. He disconnected the battery under the bonnet and not under the seat.

He said he has connected his laptop but it wouldn’t even find the car/ ecu if I understood him correctly. I think He is going to call in a auto electrician so I assume they will have the diagnostics equipment for my car.

How do you mean piggy backing on one? Get hold of another ecu?

Thanks

I think you are probably right... see:

And in this one, Wheeler suggests that it buggers the earth, so earthing the casing can get it going again.
