Citroen owner again ..C4 G-P Spare Wheel ?

Unread post by reef2k »

Hi

I'm a Citroen owner once again as i have Just bought a 2007,C4 Grand Picasso 1.6 HDI and have a couple of questions

1. Does this model come with a spare wheel ? according to the manual it looks like it did,but the trader i bought it from isn't so sure, but says he will supply one if it turns out they do.

2. The rear and side windows are very dark and i've not seen this on others i looked at,so wonder if it was an option or aftermarket thing ? They look good, but visibility is poor on dark, wet nights.

I've just had a look at the specs of your car from the Reg / VIN and can confirm:
  1. You car was not supplied with a spare wheel
  2. You have the Tinted + Moulded RR Window Glass
So factory options for peace of mind. :-D

Looking at a few others - they also seem to have this dark rear glass as an option:

Many thanks Mark, appreciate your quick response. Can't drive a car without a spare, due to the number of punctures we get around rural Suffolk,so will find one.
I'm surprised the glass was an option as it's much darker than usual factory fits, but good to know, thanks.

Bear in mind you may have the alternative puncture repair kit on board - check under the rear seat footwells or in the luggage area as per the manual:

I've not been out there to check as it's freezing and snowing like mad at the moment, but i don't want to use the repair sealant as it usually renders the tyre irreparable. i have room for a spare underneath so need to get it sorted.

Some sealants are ok and don’t upset the TPMS but others can nobble the tyre as you say

There are two options with the C4GP regarding the spare wheel; either a wheel fitted underneath the rear or a puncture repair kit. The problem with the former is that it comes with a specific system to hold the wheel in place and lower it down for access. If it doesn't have this system in place you most likely have a repair kit somewhere in the car.

No spare with this particular vehicle, already checked so will have the repair kit at new, but may well be missing.

Mine came with no spare. The previous owner bought one. It lives in my shed unless I'm going on a long journey more than a couple of hours from home. Then it lives in the boot.

Found the repair kit, looks unused. Also found an RAC report for the recovery, after the previous owner had a hole in the side of a front tyre. Holding a spare underneath just requires a length of suitable studding,nuts,plates/washers,all of which i have somewhere.Oh and drilling a hole :)

Hi Nick

I’ve got the repair system, the third car with it now and never had to use it. I also bought one off eBay for the Xantia, much faster than changing a wheel on a hard shoulder.
The stuff does not damage the tyre but you do need to tell a tyre fitter if you’ve used it so they can clean the inside of the tyre.

The issue here is that if you have run on a deflated tyre even slowing from motorway speeds to the hard shoulder, the tyre is most likely knackered as the internal sidewalls will have rubbed away.

If you've had a blow out, the tyre is knackered.

I drive at antisocial hours a lot. I'd rather change a wheel in 5-10 mins than mess about with some kit. Then I know my spare is on, isn't going to suddenly go down and I can continue my journey at normal speed. I'd also struggle to get a replacement tyre overnight.

Full size spare for me wins every time.

The problem is FULL SIZE. Loads of cars can’t carry a full size spare so you’re still restricted on speed.
Just remembered, my latest C4 Picasso does have a narrow spare but I also carry the repair kit. I don’t think a full size spare will fit into the boot space on this car.

As I said, I just throw mine in the boot for long journeys. It doesn't take up much space - the caveat here is that I rarely use the rear 2 seats, I appreciate those that do don't have that option. I bought it for the space rather than the 7 seats.

I wouldn’t rely on the liquid puncture repair kit to save you, 9 times out of 10 they are completely useless.
As for not being able to repair the tyre after using the repair kit, this seems to be a myth created by tyre shops. There may possibly be some that render the tyre unrepairable ?but out of all the ones i have looked at ive not seen one yet that that states the tyre would be unrepairable after use.
More like they cant be bothered to clean the stuff out the tyre.
Cant even remember when i last had a puncture but I still wouldn’t even consider having a car without a spare tyre.
