x7 headlamp washers

Unread post by Bandit12 »

Should my car have working headlamp washers? It has the blanking plugs on the front bumper but cant find anything listed on citroendoc. Tried the usual of activating the windscreen washers while the lights are on without success. Washer bottle topped up too. Are they a standard feature on the exclusive?

Xenons were optional, and the washer jets came with the Xenons. If yours has Xenons, then it should have washer jets. The washer jet covers are present as standard i.e. the presence of covers does not indicate washer jets are loacted behind them.

Try carefully pulling one of the covers forward.
If they are just covers, they will unclip fairly easily; if there are washers attached, they will pull out with the covers (against fairly strong spring tension). Be careful not to break the covers, though, they're surprisingly expensive, and don't let them spring back in suddenly!

Bandit - yes you have Discharge Lamps on yours - so Headlamp wash wipe should work.

If not check the engine bay fuse box - it is F4 (Headlamp Wash Pump) it is a 10 Amp fuse. What can happen is if the screen wash mixture is very weak it can freeze in the headlamp system water pipes and if icy / minus temperature, it can cause the pump to overheat if the water is frozen and will therefore blow the fuse to stop the pump operating.

Always use a good heavy concentrate of screenwash (I can actually recommend the Halfords Premium stuff at about £4 for 5 litres - you don't dilute it. It has NEVER let me down.

thanks for the replies and advice guys. I can say that according to citroen.doc it has h8 halogens fitted not xenons. I will check f4 10amp fuse in the morning and let you know. i will also try carefully tweaking the covers and see whats underneath.

It's entirely possible yours has got halogens and no lamp washers as the Xenons (as Citroen refer to them, or discharge lamps as we might call them) were optional for your Exclusive..... at least that's according to the sales brochures of the time !!

Have you changed your VIN Bandit? I had you down for the 2.2 engine? You won’t have headlamp washers for halogens just the covers. But the VIN I had for you concerning the RT4 thread indicates a 2.2 with discharge lamps.

Edit - I think this was for your old C5 MK II that had the discharge lamps and was the 2.2 - so just me loosing the plot! Again.

Hi Guys
I did have a 2.2 which did have the headlight washers and it is possible the VIN has been mixed up with the 2.0 X7 I bought a couple of weeks ago.
I have followed the various helpful advice and although I was not able to prise off the covers I did have a feel about on the inside in front of the the battery and it felt like like they are not fitted in the first place. I did also check the fuse box and F4 does have a functioning 20amp fuse in it. It does look like the headlamps are halogen.
Only reason I am fussed is because I got the car from a dealer with a 3 month warranty and want to ensure I'm totally familiar with the car and everything works perfectly before the warranty expires. I have had bad experiences with second hand car dealers in the past so i'm extremely wary and un-trusting of them (bit like estate agents but thats another story). If i had bought it privately I would not be so sceptical and a little more philosophical.

Many thanks for the advice Guys

Bandit :-)

It is an optional extra, part of the various option packs offered with the car, not standard equipment on any model.
