Repairing Citroen piston seals

Unread post by Bora492 »

Hello - this is a stretch, but here goes:

I have a 1973 Maserati Bora, with Citroen hydraulics. One of the pistons controls seat height (picture). I have owned the car 25 years, and had all pistons rebuilt when purchased. Yesterday the seal blew out of the seat piston. All the resources I knew 25 years ago are no longer in business.

Could someone possibly direct me to a Citroen piston rebuilder? I'm in the US, state of California. Thanks!

My first port of call would be somewhere that does hydraulic ram rebuilds - may be a long shot but?

It might be worth contacting these people, they also repair bespoke and small rams and say they haven’t had one they can’t repair yet.

They also deal worldwide and have their own machine shop so can make parts.

The obvious first place to call is Pleiades. Martin is familiar with all Citroen Hydraulics, should be able to repair your ram and will know the availability of replacement seals.
You can find contact details here

Some pictures of your car would be appreciated

Welcome.
Lovely car 8-)
Was unaware the Bora had any hydraulic parts to it. Time wise it obviously males sense (when Citroen owned Maserati) but does it definitely use lhm?

Yes it does use LHM but not for suspension as we know it on this forum.

The high pressure hydraulics were used to power the brakes, the headlights, drivers seat vertical adjustment and the pedal box fore and aft adjustment (clutch, brake and accelerator).

Prices £85k to £185 for the 3 on Honest John Classics....

Some interesting Info on the Wiki about it:

Thanks to everyone who responded. You have provided many avenues to pursue.

I clicked into Honest John's site - note there are two Boras and a Merak for sale, thus the wide price variation.

A quick story about the Wiki entry. When I first saw the Rear View, I thought, "Gee, that looks a lot like my car." Then I clicked / enlarged the photo, and saw myself walking away from my car at a show in Van Nuys, CA, with my friend Chuck who is a real, bona-fide WWII pilot, and consummate car guy. Photographer unknown.
