Xantia tailgate glass trim

Post by davewithington »

I want...well a lot of things, but right now I'm missing the trim which goes round the tailgate glass. Mine absorbed so much water it grew in length, and kept pulling off when I closed the tailgate. I was taking it off to dry it out and seal it, but managed to tear it into two large bits, so, if anyone is scrapping a car, can I have the trim please?

Hi Dave
I have a saloon I've broken for parts. I'm not quite sure which part you want, but the tailgate is still complete. You're very welcome to it if you want. Car's near Hinckley, Leics.

It's the rubber bit round the tailgate window, doesn't appear to be available as a separate part. May be able to pop down from Stoke next weekend if that's OK

I don't think that the rubber seal around the window is replaceable using any simple technique, it is bonded in with the glass.

Mine just popped off - not bonded at all, it's a rubber channel section which pushes over. in fact it's sitting under a chair in my hall as I write

Can't see it is listed as a separate part - either comes with the tailgate frame, or the glass;

Would be interested to see pics of yours off the car to show fitting detail (and the tailgate/glass joint with it removed)

I have the same issue with the V6. The bottom corner is pushing out. I looked at the parts diagram but cannot see the part I need.

It's not easily replaceable as it's bonded in with the glass when the tailgate is assembled...

I once tried to remove one and failed miserably...

Funny that Jim

Mine fell off - it's been lifting for a while, and came off altogether the other day, so the bonding must have failed.

I think I'll have to waterproof the one I've got and stick it back on

I'll take some photos at the weekend and post them, for interest.

I do recall that Simon (Mandrake) had fun with his window trim on the 'Problem Child' V6 Xantia he had. In winter it bulged in a couple of places.

It did, I remember, as I had exactly the same problem on one of my Xantias at the time...
