Boot lid 2011 c5 x7 Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas to you all .
I am having problems with the strength in both my arms and they are getting weaker. I find that if i unlatch the boot lid with one hand ( the other hand is full of shopping ) i can't get the lid open enough for the struts to take over and completely lift the boot lid. Has anyone seen or heard of a modification that can be done to give me that extra bit of lift. Citroen Doncaster have checked the struts out and are saying they are fine.
Does any of you guy's have a picture or diagram of how the boot lid hinges or stay's work ??????

Hi mate. Happy new year.
Some x7s have an automated boot opening feature. to opens via the normal boot latch n closes via an additional button installed in Base of the boot. however I have no idea if this feature can be retro fitted.

That feature is only available on the Tourer and is not available or compatible on the saloon unfortunately. I have read of a mod though, so i’ll have a dig for Renegade.

So what I can tell you is that some people have actually attached a right angled bracket on each side of the boot strut supports, along with various fixings and a couple of springs on each side.
Then they have changed the operation of the third key on the fob using diagbox to disable the light activation function, and activate the boot unlocking function instead. Of course the Tourer has the powered tailgate that fully lifts and closes the tailgate and all the requisite electronics to do this - but this can just do the unlocking and lifting bit for you - handy if you have armfuls of shopping.

In effect, all this does is manually unlock the boot. The force of the springs then does the initial heavy lifting bit of the boot, until the struts lift it the rest of the way as normal.

A cheap way of getting the boot to open with the key and no additional electrics! - as seen in this video:



You still have to manually close it by hand of course.

I'd like to see a hydraulic ram placed instead of the spring and with a press of the key button any loiterer sitting on the boot lid would be catapulted elsewhere!

So you open the boot every time you open the car ?

No - just the middle button on the fob that on the saloon does the guide me home lights.

Oops didnt realise the auto opening was specific for the tourer but that video is interesting. Love the idea of a Ram assisted boot lid though guys, very robot wars/james bond haha

Yes, there was another chap as I said that wanted to go one step further so he rigged up a photometric sensor, relay power source and all the other gubbins so that he could wave his foot under the car and the boot would open - (using the springs mod already mentioned above first of all).

Others just use the Mrs / Mr / Significant other / ....
